New Jiayang Black Forest Introduction

Located above the Xinjayung Tribal Village, the Lishan Black Forest is an important hunting ground for the Atayal people. The towering trees in the forest reach up to the sky, and even during the day, sunlight cannot illuminate the area due to the dense foliage, resulting in a completely dark environment, which is how it gets the name "Black Forest." The Black Forest is rich in ecological resources, and the ancient hunting trails that run through it have now been transformed into forest trails, allowing visitors to witness the pristine landscape of high-altitude coniferous forests. Walking on the soft pine needles and the rustling leaves, and immersing oneself in the abundant phytoncides, one might even encounter a Formosan serow if lucky! While walking along the Black Forest Trail, in addition to observing the ferns, ancient trees, and moss in the forest, don’t forget to step out of the woods to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the tea gardens. The ancient tea garden, established by local tribespeople, is the highest tea garden in Taiwan and is an ecological tea garden that uses green farming practices. Situated at an altitude of about 2,200 meters, the ancient tea garden is shrouded in mist all year round, featuring a significant day-night temperature difference, and is irrigated by pure mountain spring water from the Black Forest, which has earned the tea produced here numerous awards and international recognition in competitions abroad. The Black Forest holds significant meaning for the Atayal as an important hunting ground for the tribe, and the ancient tea garden is private property, so those wishing to visit the Black Forest must contact the village in advance to arrange a guided tour and should not trespass.
