Xinyi Community Center and Military Dependents' Village Cultural Park - Si Si Nan Cun Introduction
Sisi Nan Village is a product of the Chinese Civil War and the first military dependents' village in the Taipei area. It is named "Sisi Nan Village" because it is located to the south of the Sisi Arsenal. Within the park, there is a bunker that was purposefully preserved by the designer. Although it has lost its former function, it remains a trace of the history that Sisi Nan Village has gone through. The park features many exhibition halls, and numerous houses retain their original appearance from that era, along with many added cultural and creative elements, as well as various products for sale. Building A - Parent-Child Pavilion: This space provides a warm play area for parents and children, allowing the nostalgic ambiance of the military dependents' village to be filled with creativity. It utilizes natural materials and handmade themed educational toys for play, nurturing, learning, and growing together, making it feel like home, always full of emotion and new discoveries. Building B - Military Dependents' Village Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall: This hall primarily focuses on static displays preserving the culture of Sisi Nan Village, with themes including the historical trajectory of Sisi Nan Village, the art and culture of military dependents' villages, military dependents' mothers, culinary delights, daily life, playfulness, handicrafts, and multimedia screening rooms, among others. Building C - Hao Qiu Cultural and Creative Dining Space: Currently rented by Zhongzi Cultural Co., Ltd., this establishment is named "Hao Qiu" and focuses on light meals including bread, bagels, hamburgers, and coffee beverages. It integrates military dependents' culture and provides art exhibition activities, making it a great place for casual dining. Building D - Arts, Bookstore, and Theater: The PLAYground Nan Village Theater, along with the Qingbird and uDesign, has created a new type of space that combines theater, reading, design, and creative dining energy. During the day, it is an organic bookstore with thousands of themed books and hundreds of design products. At night, it transforms into a showcase theater for promoting new Taiwanese theater troupes, new texts, and new productions. The Xinyi Civic Center is comprised of four symmetrical buildings in Sisi Nan Village, maintaining the unique architectural style of military dependents' villages. It is surrounded by the Cultural Park of Military Dependents' Villages, Jingxin Park, spacious pedestrian walkways, and Xinyi Elementary School. The ample public open space provides a great place for local residents, Taipei citizens, and tourists staying in nearby hotels to escape the hustle and bustle for leisurely strolls. Sisi Nan Village has become a gathering place for the culture of civilian military dependents' villages, with its low-rise buildings reflecting a bygone charm standing in stark contrast to the surrounding commercial skyscrapers of Taipei's financial center, coexisting with architectural styles that showcase both the past and present of the Xinyi District.
