Xinyi Civic Plaza and Military Dependents' Village Cultural Park - Sisi Nan Village Introduction
Sihsih District is a product of the Chinese Civil War and the first military dependents' village in the Taipei area, named "Sihsih District" because it is located south of the Sihsih Arsenal. The area contains a fortress that was deliberately preserved by its designer. Although it has lost its original function, it serves as a testament to the history of Sihsih District. The park features many exhibition halls and numerous houses that retain the appearances from that era. Additionally, many creative cultural elements have been added to the area, along with a wide range of merchandise for sale. Building A - Family Center: Provides families with a warm play space, filling the retro atmosphere of the former military dependents' village with creativity; using natural materials and handcrafted themed educational toys for co-play, co-nurturing, co-learning, and co-growing, making it feel like home, always full of emotion and new discoveries. Building B - Military Dependents' Village Cultural Exhibition Hall: Primarily serves a static display for cultural preservation of Sihsih District, covering themes such as the historical trajectory of Sihsih District, cultural arts of the military dependents' village, mothers of the military dependents' village, cuisine, daily life, leisure, craftsmanship, and a multimedia screening room, among others. Building C - HAO CHIU Creative Dining Space: Currently rented by Zhongzi Culture Co., Ltd., named "Hao, Chiu," it focuses on light meals including bread, bagels, burgers, and coffee beverages, blending military dependents' village culture with art and exhibition activities, making it a great place for casual dining. Building D - Arts, Bookstore, and Theater: PLAYground Sihsih Theater, co-designed by "Tsinghua Media, Bluebird, and uDesign," creates a new type of space that merges theater, reading, design, and dining creative energy. During the day, it serves as an organic bookstore with thousands of themed collections and hundreds of designed products. At night, it transforms into a vibrant theater promoting new Taiwanese theater troupes, new texts, and new productions. The Xinyi Civic Center consists of four symmetrical buildings of Sihsih District, maintaining the unique architectural style of the military dependents' village. It is surrounded by the Military Dependents' Village Cultural Park, Jingxin Park, spacious pedestrian walkways, and Xinyi Elementary School. Ample public open space provides residents, Taipei citizens, and even travelers who stay in nearby hotels with a good place to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy a leisurely stroll. Sihsih District has become a gathering place for civilian military dependents' village culture, with its low-profile buildings exhibiting the charm of vintage times contrasting sharply with the surrounding commercial skyscrapers of Taipei's financial center, along with showcasing the architectural styles of the past and present of the Xinyi District.
