Xinyi Citizen Hall and Veterans Village Cultural Park - Si Si Nan Cun Introduction
Si-si Nan Village is a product of the Chinese Civil War and is the first military dependents' village in the Taipei area. It is named "Si-si Nan Village" because it is located south of the Si-si Arsenal. Within the park, there is a preserved bunker from that time, which the designers decided to retain. Although it has lost its original function, it serves as a mark of Si-si Nan Village's historical journey. The park features many exhibition halls, and several residential buildings have retained their original appearances from that era. Additionally, many creative cultural elements have been incorporated into the area, along with numerous products available for sale. Hall A - Parent-Child Hall: This space offers a warm play environment for parents and children, filling the vintage atmosphere of the original military dependents' village with creativity. It utilizes natural materials and various handmade thematic educational toys for interactive play, nurturing, learning, and growing together, creating a home-like feeling that is always full of emotion and discovery. Hall B - Military Dependents' Village Cultural Exhibition Hall: This hall focuses on the static display of cultural preservation within Si-si Nan Village, showcasing themes including the historical trajectory of Si-si Nan Village, cultural activities, mothers of the military dependents' village, local cuisine, village life, interactive games, handicrafts, and a multimedia screening room. Hall C - Hao Qiu Cultural and Culinary Space: Currently rented by Zhongzi Culture Co., Ltd. and named "Hao, Qiu", this dining space specializes in light meals, including bread, bagels, burgers, and coffee drinks, blending military dependents' village culture with art exhibition activities, making it a great spot for leisure dining. Hall D - Cultural, Bookstore, and Theater Space: PLAYground Nan Village Theater, along with other partners like Qing Niao and uDesign, has jointly created a new type of space that integrates theater, reading, design, and culinary creativity. During the day, it is an organic bookstore with thousands of themed books and hundreds of design products; at night, it transforms into a platform for promoting new theater troupes, new texts, and new productions. The Xinyi Civic Center consists of four symmetrical buildings of Si-si Nan Village, retaining the unique architectural style of military dependents' villages. It is surrounded by the Cultural Park of Military Dependents' Village, Jingxin Park, spacious pedestrian plaza areas, and Xinyi Elementary School. The ample public open space provides local residents, Taipei citizens, and even tourists staying in nearby Xinyi district hotels a tranquil place to escape the hustle and bustle for leisure walks. Si-si Nan Village has become a gathering place for the culture of ordinary military dependents' villages, with its low-profile, uniquely nostalgic buildings contrasting sharply against the towering commercial buildings of Taipei's financial center, while also showcasing the architectural styles that represent both the past and present of the Xinyi District.
