Xinyi Civic Center and Veterans Village Cultural Park - Sisi Nan Village Introduction
Sisi Nan Cun is a product of the Chinese Civil War and is the first military dependents' village in the Taipei area. It is named "Sisi Nan Cun" because it is located south of the Sisi Arsenal. Within the park, there is a preserved bunker from that period, which has lost its original function but serves as a trace of Sisi Nan Cun's history. The area hosts many exhibition halls, and several residential buildings have retained their original appearance, while numerous creative cultural elements have been added, along with many products for sale. Building A - Parent-Child Hall: Provides a warm play space for parents and children, allowing the retro atmosphere of the original military dependents' village to be filled with creativity. Utilizing natural materials and handmade thematic toys, it encourages play, nurturing, learning, and growing together, evoking a homely feel that is always full of emotion and new discoveries. Building B - Military Dependents' Cultural Exhibition Hall: Mainly focuses on the static display of cultural preservation for Sisi Nan Cun. The exhibition topics include the historical trajectory of Sisi Nan Cun, cultural arts of the military dependents' village, military dependents' mothers, military dependents' cuisine, military dependents' life, games of the world, handicrafts, and multimedia screening rooms, among others. Building C - Hao Qiu Creative Dining Space: Currently rented by Zhongzi Culture Co., Ltd., with the name "Hao Qiu," this dining establishment focuses on light meals, including bread, bagels, hamburgers, and coffee drinks, combining military dependents' culture with art exhibitions, making it a great place for leisure dining. Building D - Arts, Bookstore, and Theater Hall: The PLAYground Nan Cun Theater is a collaborative creation by "Tsinghua Media, Bluebird, and uDesign." It combines theater, reading, design, and dining into a new type of space. By day, it serves as an organic bookstore with thousands of themed books and hundreds of design products; by night, it transforms into a showcase theater for promoting new theater groups, new scripts, and new productions in Taiwan. The Xinyi Civic Center consists of four symmetrical buildings of Sisi Nan Cun, maintaining the unique architectural style of the military dependents' village. Surrounded by the Military Dependents' Cultural Park, Jingxin Park, spacious pedestrian plazas, and Xinyi Elementary School, the ample public open spaces provide district residents, Taipei citizens, and even tourists staying at nearby hotels in the Xinyi District a great place to escape the hustle and bustle for a leisurely walk. Sisi Nan Cun has become a hub for the culture of the common people in military dependents' villages, featuring low buildings with a nostalgic charm amidst the towering commercial buildings of Taipei's financial center, creating a striking contrast and coexisting with architectural styles that showcase the past and present of the Xinyi District.
