Xinyi Civic Center and Hometown Culture Park - Sisi Nan Village Introduction
Si Si Nan Cun is a product of the Chinese Civil War and is the first military dependents' village in the Taipei area. It is named "Si Si Nan Cun" because it is located south of the Si Si Armory. Within the park, there is a fortified bunker that was deliberately preserved by the designer; although it has lost its original function, it remains a trace of Si Si Nan Cun's historical journey. The park features many exhibition halls, with numerous residential houses retaining the appearance of that era. Additionally, many cultural and creative elements have been added, along with a variety of products for sale. Building A – Parent-Child Center: It provides a warm play space for parents and children, allowing the retro atmosphere of the former military village to be filled with creativity. Using natural materials and handmade thematic educational toys, it offers opportunities for playing, nurturing, learning, and growing together, creating a feeling of returning home, full of emotions and endless discoveries. Building B – Military Dependents' Cultural Exhibits Hall: The main purpose is to preserve and display the culture of Si Si Nan Cun through static exhibitions, with themes including the historical trajectory of Si Si Nan Cun, cultural activities, military dependents' mothers, cuisine, daily life, leisure activities, handicrafts, and a multimedia screening room, among others. Building C – Hao Qiu Cultural and Creative Dining Space: Currently leased by Zhongzi Culture Co., Ltd., its name is "Hao, Qiu", focusing on light meals including bread, bagels, burgers, and coffee beverages. It combines military dependents' culture with art exhibition activities, making it a great place for casual dining. Building D – Arts and Culture, Bookstore, and Theater: The PLAYground Nan Cun Theater·Qing Niao·You·Design was jointly created by "Daqing Hua Media, Qing Niao, and uDesign". This new type of space merges theater, reading, design, and creative dining energy. During the day, it serves as an organic bookstore with thousands of thematic books and hundreds of design products, while at night, it transforms into a venue promoting new Taiwanese theater troupes, new texts, and new productions. The building of the Xinyi Citizen Center comprises four symmetrically designed buildings of Si Si Nan Cun, retaining the unique architectural style of military dependents' villages. It is surrounded by the Cultural Park of Military Dependents, Jingxin Park, spacious pedestrian plazas, and Xinyi Elementary School, providing ample public open space for community residents, Taipei citizens, and even tourists staying in nearby hotels in Xinyi District, offering a great place to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy leisurely walks. Si Si Nan Cun has become a gathering place for civilian military dependents' culture, presenting a strong contrast between the low-rise buildings with old charm and the surrounding tall commercial skyscrapers of Taipei's financial center, while coexisting with architectural styles that showcase the past and present of Xinyi District.
