Taipei City Government Introduction
The Taipei City Government's City Hall, located at the end of Ren'ai Road, is one of the landmarks in the Xinyi Planning District. If you climb Taipei 101 and look down at the City Hall, you'll see that the entire building is shaped like a "Double Ten." Inside the City Hall, the Taipei Discovery Center offers rich displays and guided services, making it the first stop for many domestic and international tourists to learn about Taipei. The Taipei City Government is the administrative agency of Taipei City, established in October 1945. It officially became a municipality on July 1, 1967. After the reform, the mayor of Taipei was originally appointed, but it changed to an elected mayor on December 25, 1994. Since the reform, driven by urgent demands for municipal construction, there have been changes in the organizational structure, which included the elimination and consolidation of outdated agencies, while many new agencies and schools have been established. Currently, the City Government supervises 23 departments, including the Civil Affairs Bureau, Finance Bureau, Education Bureau, Industry Development Bureau, Public Works Bureau, Transportation Bureau, Social Bureau, Labor Bureau, Police Department, Health Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, Urban Development Bureau, Cultural Bureau, Fire Department, MRT Engineering Bureau, Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Management Office, Tourism and Communications Bureau, Land Administration Bureau, Military Service Bureau, Sports Bureau, Information Bureau, Legal Affairs Bureau, and Youth Bureau. There are also 5 offices: Secretary's Office, Accounting Office, Personnel Office, Government Ethics Office, and Civil Service Training Office; along with 4 committees: Research, Development and Evaluation Commission, Urban Planning Committee, Indigenous Peoples Affairs Committee, and Hakka Affairs Committee; as well as 4 enterprises and institutions: Taipei Water Department, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, Engineering Administration Division, and Movable Property Pledge Department, along with 12 district offices.
