Taipei City Government Introduction
The Taipei City Government building, located at the end of Renai Road, is one of the landmarks in the Xinyi Planning District. From the observation deck of Taipei 101, one can see the entire structure shaped like "Double Ten." Inside the City Government building is the Taipei Discovery Center, which offers rich exhibitions and guided services, making it a first stop for many domestic and international visitors to learn about Taipei. The Taipei City Government is the administrative body of Taipei City, established in October 1945. It officially transformed into a municipality on July 1, 1967. After the transformation, the Taipei City Mayor, who was appointed by the government, was changed to an elected position on December 25, 1994. Since the transformation, the structure has changed to meet urgent municipal construction needs, along with the dissolution and merger of outdated agencies while continuously establishing many new ones. Currently, the City Government oversees organizations including the Civil Affairs Bureau, Finance Bureau, Education Bureau, Industry Development Bureau, Public Works Bureau, Transportation Bureau, Social Affairs Bureau, Labor Bureau, Police Department, Health Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, Urban Development Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau, Fire Department, Metro Engineering Bureau, Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Administration, Tourism and Communications Bureau, Land Administration Bureau, Military Service Bureau, Sports Bureau, Information Bureau, Legal Affairs Bureau, and Youth Bureau, totaling 23 bureaus; as well as five departments: Secretariat, Accounting Department, Personnel Department, Government Ethics Department, and Civil Servant Training Department; and four committees: Research and Development Evaluation Committee, Urban Planning Committee, Indigenous Peoples Affairs Committee, and Hakka Affairs Committee. Additionally, there are four business entities: Taipei Water Department and Taipei Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, Engineering Corps, and the Movable Property Pawnshop, along with 12 district offices.
