Taipei City Government Introduction
The Taipei City Government is located in the city hall, which is one of the landmarks of the Xinyi Planning District, situated at the end of Ren'ai Road. From the top of Taipei 101, one can see that the entire building has a "Double Ten" shape. Inside the city hall, the Taipei City Exploration Hall offers rich exhibits and guided services, making it the first stop for many domestic and international tourists to learn about Taipei. The Taipei City Government serves as the administrative body of Taipei City and was established in October 1945. On July 1, 1967, it was officially transformed into a directly governed municipality, and the position of Taipei City Mayor, which was previously appointed, became an elected position on December 25, 1994. Since the transformation, in response to urgent needs for municipal construction, the organizational structure has changed. Several outdated agencies were either abolished or merged, while many new agencies and schools were established. Currently, the city government oversees organizations including the Civil Affairs Bureau, Finance Bureau, Education Bureau, Industry Development Bureau, Public Works Bureau, Transportation Bureau, Social Bureau, Labor Bureau, Police Bureau, Health Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, Urban Development Bureau, Cultural Bureau, Fire Department, Taipei Metro Engineering Bureau, Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Management Bureau, Tourism and Communications Bureau, Land Administration Bureau, Military Service Bureau, Sports Bureau, Information Bureau, Legal Affairs Bureau, and Youth Bureau, totaling 23 bureaus. There are also 5 offices including the Secretariat, Accounting Office, Human Resources Office, Political Ethics Office, and Civil Service Training Office; as well as 4 committees including the Research and Development Assessment Committee, Urban Planning Committee, Indigenous Affairs Committee, and Hakka Affairs Committee. Additionally, there are 4 public enterprises such as Taipei Water Department and Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, the Engineering Corps, and the Movable Property Pledge Department, along with 12 district offices.
