Taipei City Government Introduction
The Taipei City Government, located in the Taipei City Hall, is one of the landmarks in the Xinyi Planning District. Situated at the end of Ren'ai Road, if you view the City Hall from Taipei 101, you can see the entire building shaped like the "Double Tenth" festival emblem. Inside the City Hall is the Taipei City Exploration Center, which features rich exhibits and guided services, making it the first stop for many domestic and international visitors to learn about Taipei. The Taipei City Government serves as the administrative authority of Taipei City and was established in October 1945. On July 1, 1967, it was officially restructured into a municipality. Initially, the mayor of Taipei City was appointed by the government, but on December 25, 1994, the position changed to an elected mayor. Following the restructuring, due to urgent demands for municipal development, the organizational structure has changed, including the abolition and merger of outdated agencies, while many new agencies and schools have been established. Currently, the city government oversees 23 departments, including the Department of Civil Affairs, Department of Finance, Department of Education, Department of Economic Development, Public Works Department, Department of Transportation, Department of Social Welfare, Department of Labor, Police Department, Department of Health, Environmental Protection Department, Urban Development Department, Cultural Affairs Department, Fire Department, Metro Engineering Bureau, Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Management Office, Department of Tourism and Information, Department of Land, Military Service Agency, Sports Department, Information Office, Legal Affairs Department, and Youth Office; five offices including the Secretariat, Accounting Office, Personnel Office, Department of Government Ethics, and Public Servants Training Institute; as well as four committees, namely the Research and Development Evaluation Committee, Urban Planning Commission, Aboriginal Affairs Committee, and Hakka Affairs Committee. There are also four enterprises, including the Taipei Water Department, Taipei Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, General Engineering Office, and Personal Property Pledge Office, along with 12 district offices.
