Taipei City Government Introduction

The Taipei City Government, located in the Taipei City Hall, is one of the landmarks in the Xinyi planning area. Situated at the end of Ren'ai Road, when viewed from the Taipei 101, the entire building resembles a "Double Ten" shape. Inside the City Hall, the Taipei Discovery Center offers rich displays and guided services, making it the first stop for many domestic and international tourists to learn about Taipei. The Taipei City Government serves as the administrative agency of Taipei City, established in October 1945. On July 1, 1967, it was officially restructured as a municipality, transitioning from a appointed mayor to an elected mayor on December 25, 1994. Since the restructuring, in response to urgent municipal construction needs, organizational changes have occurred, including the dissolution and merger of outdated agencies, as well as the establishment of many new agencies and schools. Currently, the city government oversees 23 departments: the Civil Affairs Bureau, Finance Bureau, Education Bureau, Bureau of Industry Development, Public Works Bureau, Transportation Bureau, Social Bureau, Labor Bureau, Police Bureau, Health Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, Urban Development Bureau, Cultural Bureau, Fire Department, MRT Engineering Bureau, Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Administration, Tourism and Communication Bureau, Land Administration Bureau, Military Service Bureau, Sports Bureau, Information Bureau, Legal Affairs Bureau, and Youth Bureau; 5 offices: the Secretariat, Accounting Office, Human Resources Office, Government Ethics Office, and Civil Service Training Office; and 4 committees: the Research and Development Assessment Committee, Urban Planning Committee, Indigenous Peoples Affairs Committee, and Hakka Affairs Committee. Additionally, there are 4 public enterprises, including the Taipei Water Department and the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, the Engineering Office, and the Movable Property Pledge Office, along with 12 district offices.
