He-Xing Coal Mine Introduction
HeHsing Coal Mine is located next to the Cihui Temple in Taipei, hidden within an abandoned old mine near the Old Pi Creek. In the early days, large piles of coal slag were generated due to coal mining, and the geological conditions were relatively weak. After remediation, the area was developed in conjunction with the old mining site beside the Old Pi Creek, integrating the local natural landscape and mining culture characteristics to create a regional highlight, providing a new recreational spot. Upon entering the park, visitors can walk along the brick-red pavement and mine cart tracks, stepping into a "time tunnel." Along the way, one can enjoy realistic images of mine carts emerging from the pit and the ceramic mural depicting "The Life of Coal," which narrates the process from coal formation to product output. At the end of the path, there is a "spiral staircase," where, if lucky, one might see bats hanging and resting at the old mine’s rubble outlet. Walking along the themed pathway, one can feel the local cultural history, as if traveling back in time to the Japanese colonial period. The explanatory facilities and imagery related to coal mining along the way evoke memories of the past vividly. It is recommended to visit HeHsing Coal Mine on holidays to experience the unique charm of the old mining area in Xinyi District.
