He-Hsing Coal Mine Introduction
He-Hsing Coal Mine is located next to the Ci-Hui Temple in Taipei, hidden as an abandoned old mine near the Old Pi Stream. In the early days, due to coal mining, a large amount of coal waste was piled up, and the geological conditions were relatively fragile. Later, it underwent remediation, and combined with the old mining area beside the Old Pi Stream, it created an overall environmental landscape that highlights the local natural scenery and mining culture, transforming it into a regional highlight and providing a new leisure and recreation spot. Upon entering the park, visitors can walk along the brick-red pavement and the imagery of the tramway into the "Time Tunnel," where they can enjoy the realistic portrayal of mine carts coming out and the ceramic wall murals depicting "The Life of Coal," narrating its journey from formation to product. At the end, there is a "Spiral Staircase," and if lucky, one might see many bats hanging and resting at the old mine's waste discharge exit. Walking on the pathway resembling tram tracks, one can feel the local human history, as if traveling back in time to the Japanese colonial era. Along the way, the interpretative facilities and imagery about coal mining make the past vividly come to life. It is recommended to visit He-Hsing Coal Mine on weekends to experience the unique charm of the old mining area in Xinyi District.
