He-xing Coal Mine Introduction
He-Hsing Coal Mine is located next to the Cihui Temple in Taipei and hides an abandoned old mine near the old Pi Creek. In the early days, a large amount of coal debris was piled up due to coal mining, and the geological conditions were relatively fragile. Later, it was rehabilitated, and combined with the old mining area beside the old Pi Creek, it created an overall environmental setting that integrates local natural scenery and mining cultural characteristics, making it a regional highlight and providing a new recreational spot. Upon entering the park, visitors can walk along the red-brick floor and the imagery of the mining tracks into the "Time Tunnel," where they can admire realistic depictions of mine carts exiting the mine and the ceramic murals narrating the "Life of Coal," detailing the process from generation to finished products. At the end, there is a "Spiral Staircase," and with a bit of luck, one may see many bats resting upside down at the old mine's waste exit. Walking on the pathway that resembles the tracks, one can feel the local cultural history, as if traveling back in time to the Japanese colonial period. The explanatory facilities and imagery regarding coal mining along the way evoke vivid memories of the past. It is recommended to visit the He-Hsing Coal Mine on weekends to experience the distinctive charm of the old mining area in the Xinyi District.
