Hohsing Coal Mine Introduction

HeHsing Coal Mine is located next to the CiHui Temple in Taipei, where a hidden abandoned old mine is found, adjacent to the Old Pizi River. In the past, due to coal mining activities, a large amount of coal slag was piled up, and the geological conditions were relatively fragile. The area was later rehabilitated, and together with the old mining area beside the Old Pizi River, the overall environment was enhanced, integrating local natural scenery and the cultural characteristics of the coal mine, creating a regional highlight that provides a new recreational space. Upon entering the park, visitors can follow the red brick pavement and mine track imagery to step into a "Time Tunnel." Along the way, one can admire realistic depictions of mine carts exiting the pit and the ceramic mural titled "The Life of Coal," which narrates the journey from natural formation to product output. At the end of the path, there is a "Spiral Ladder," where lucky visitors might see many bats hanging and resting at the old mine's ore discharge site. Walking along the track-themed pathway allows one to feel the local cultural history, as if traveling back to the Japanese colonial period. The explanatory facilities and imagery related to coal mining along the way make the past come vividly to life. It is recommended to visit the HeHsing Coal Mine on weekends to experience the unique charm of the old mining area in the Xinyi District.
