He-hsing Coal Mine Introduction

He Hsing Coal Mine is located next to the Cihui Temple in Taipei, hidden alongside the old Piting River. In the early days, large piles of coal ash were left due to coal mining, and the geological conditions were relatively weak. Later on, restoration efforts were made, and the environment was enhanced in conjunction with the old mining area by the Piting River, blending local natural scenery and the cultural characteristics of the coal mine to create a regional highlight and provide a new recreational spot. Upon entering the park, visitors can walk along the red brick pavement and the imagery of mine tracks into a "time tunnel." Along the way, one can admire the lifelike depiction of coal cars exiting the mine and the ceramic mural depicting the "life of coal," narrating its journey from formation to product. At the end, there is a "spiral ladder," where, if lucky, one might also see numerous bats hanging and resting at the old mine's dumpsite. Walking along the trail with the mine track imagery allows one to feel the local cultural history, as if traveling back in time to the Japanese occupation period. Along the route, there are explanatory facilities and imagery related to coal mining, vividly bringing to mind scenes of the past. It is recommended to visit the He Hsing Coal Mine on weekends to experience the unique charm of the old mining area in the Xinyi District.
