Hung Yi Museum of Art Introduction
Master Hung Yi graduated from Ming Dao High School's Fine Arts Program in 1988 and began working in installation art in 1990. In 2000, Hung Yi was selected to reside in the then most important contemporary art hub in central Taiwan, the Taichung Warehouse No. 20 Art Village. He is now an internationally renowned artist. His works are vibrant and predominantly feature animal shapes, inspiring imagination and wonder in viewers! The museum includes some pieces created during his high school years and other works that have returned from exhibitions abroad, including New York and Washington, comprising many flat and three-dimensional sculptures. Hung Yi adheres to the philosophy of "localization is globalization," believing that the flowers that bloom in a place reflect its essence. When contemplating the local style of Taiwan, he symbolizes the nutrients of life and folk culture, layering soft and colorful yet solid cultural imprints onto the hard inner steel materials. These symbols, such as floral patterns, blessings, paper cuttings, and blue-and-white porcelain, under his flexible application, transcend the rigid and singular meanings of traditional customs, generating greater imagination and inclusivity, allowing for the fusion and connection of new visual and potential experiences with a distinctive personal style. Hung Yi has also symbolized the "museum" as a piece of art, creatively integrating different architectures, materials, and elements under the concept of postmodernism. In a space of over 1,000 square meters, old and new interweave and functions shift, deconstructing the traditional concept of a museum as a white box to incorporate more local colors and emotions.
