Hung Yi Museum of Art Introduction
Master Hong Yi graduated from Ming Dao High School’s Department of Fine Arts in 1988 and started working in installation art in 1990. In 2000, he was selected to reside in the then most important contemporary art space in central Taiwan, the Taichung Warehouse No. 20 Art Village. He is now an internationally renowned artist, and his works are vibrant and often animal-shaped, sparking the imagination and surprising viewers with the wonders of art! The museum features some of his works created during high school, along with others that returned from exhibitions abroad, including in New York and Washington, comprising numerous two-dimensional and three-dimensional sculptures. Hong Yi believes in the concept of "localization is globalization," asserting that the type of flowers that bloom reflects the place they grow in. When contemplating what Taiwanese local style is, he symbolically infused the nutrients of daily life and folk culture into the hard inner steel, layering vibrant colors on the surface to create a solid cultural imprint. These symbols, such as floral patterns, blessings, paper cutting, and blue-and-white porcelain, are skillfully utilized to break free from the rigid, singular meanings traditionally associated with them, generating more imagination and inclusiveness, allowing for new visual connections and possibilities with a strong personal style. Hong Yi also symbolizes the "art museum," treating it as an artwork, employing the modern concept to merge different buildings, materials, and elements together. In a space of over a thousand square meters, old and new intersect, functions transform, and the previous concept of the art museum as a white box is deconstructed, integrating more local colors and emotions.
