Niutou Mountain, Loumen Rock Introduction
Niutoushan (Bull Head Mountain), located at the northeastern cape of Green Island, is a landmark of the island. It quietly lies at the northeast cape, overlooking Green Island and every traveler who arrives. Walking north from Nanliao Fishing Port, passing by the Green Island Visitor Center, Chai Kou, and Green Oasis Resort, one can reach Niutoushan. Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the summit boasts a vast grassy plain, making it the perfect spot for sea viewing, tide watching, and enjoying sunsets. The sunset at Niutoushan is one of the best views on Green Island. Unlike watching the sunset from the ground at Sunrise Hot Springs or Green Island Lighthouse, viewing it from above Niutoushan allows you to appreciate the sun slowly descending behind the Central Mountain Range and ultimately disappearing, offering a different kind of melancholic beauty. From Niutoushan, one can gaze towards Loumen Rock, which is located about 300 meters offshore at the northeastern coast of Green Island. It consists of a series of coral reef rock formations protruding from the sea, with one of the tallest rocks eroded by waves forming a circular hole in the center. Viewed from afar on Green Island, it resembles an arch, hence its name "Loumen Rock," which is the most representative sea cave of Green Island. Motor boats can pass through it, allowing you to admire the stunning sea cave or overlook the ever-changing seabed topography, combined with the beautiful summer scenery of waves crashing against the reefs.
