Tengshan Trail Introduction

Yuanlin Tengshan Trail is a popular hiking trail located on Bagua Mountain, adjacent to the border of Nantou in the Baiguo Mountain Scenic Area of Yuanlin, Changhua. The route is lush with vegetation and shaded by trees. It stretches about 2 kilometers, featuring wide and gently sloping paths suitable for family outings. Along the way, wooden signs display many intriguing classical phrases, including unique three-layer characters, compounded idioms, and Taiwanese proverbs that use the special sounds and metaphors of the Taiwanese language to humorously describe various situations. For example, “dim sum cart in the restaurant” metaphorically describes the passing of responsibility. Reflecting on these meanings while walking the trail provides a deeper understanding of Taiwanese culture, making it a great experience for both parents and children, merging education with fun. In spring and summer, the snow-white tung flowers blanket the valley, adding color to the greenery. As the breeze blows, petals fall like snow, creating a beautiful scene. Every April, the snow blooms attract nearly 200,000 visitors for flower viewing. Numerous viewing platforms along the trail offer places to rest; among them, the Yuan-Shi Pavilion provides an excellent vantage point for flower appreciation and a panoramic view of the cityscape below. Occasionally, you can see lychee orchards and pineapple fields alongside rural scenery; the wooden signs along the route also add a literary touch to the trail. During spring and summer, it becomes a significant tung flower viewing site in Changhua, often hosting related events like the Hakka Tung Flower Festival. This location is not only ideal for hiking and leisure but also a trail rich in artistic atmosphere.
