Tengshan Trail Introduction
Yuanlin Tianshan Trail is a popular hiking trail on Bagua Mountain, located in the Baiguan Mountain Scenic Area in Yuanlin, Changhua, near the Nantou border. The path is lush with vegetation and shaded by trees. It spans approximately 2 kilometers, with a wide and gentle slope, making it suitable for family outings. Along the way, wooden signs feature many classical and interesting texts, including unique triple-character formations, integrated idioms, and Taiwanese colloquialisms. They humorously describe various subjects through the distinctive phonetics and metaphors of Taiwanese, such as the phrase "dim sum cart" which metaphorically refers to the passing of responsibility. Reflecting on these meanings while walking the trail offers a deeper understanding of Taiwanese culture, making it a great educational experience for families. In spring and summer, the snow-white tung tree flowers blanket the valley, adding color to the greenery, and when the breeze blows, petals fall like snow, creating a beautiful scene. Every April, the "Snow" attracts nearly 200,000 visitors for flower viewing. The trail features many viewpoints for rest, including the Yuan-Shi Pavilion, which not only offers close-up flower viewing but also provides excellent vistas of the city landscape. Occasionally, one can see litchi orchards and pineapple fields along the way; the sign texts add literary flair to the path. In spring and summer, it is a key spot for tung flower viewing in Changhua and often hosts events such as the Hakka Tung Flower Festival. This trail is not only a place for hiking and leisure but also boasts a rich artistic ambiance.
