Hundred-Year Stone Terrace Introduction
The stone-terraced fields, with a history of over a century, are located in the Guanghua (Dingbenzi) area of Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County. These terraces are a testament to the hard work of the early settlers of Dingbenzi. The terraces were built by the early residents using stacked natural stones to create borders and walls around each plot of land for agricultural purposes on sloped terrain, aimed at stabilizing the soil, preventing erosion, and providing a stable cultivated area. Despite a century of weathering, these stone terraces remain strong, showcasing the wisdom and perseverance of the ancestors. Currently, these terraces are still used by local villagers to cultivate various crops.
