Centennial Stone Terrace Rice Fields Introduction
The stone-piled terraces with a history of over a hundred years are located in the Guanghua (Dingbentzu) area of Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County. They stand as a testament to the hard work of the early settlers of Dingbentzu. These terraces were built by early residents to cultivate the sloped land, with each plot surrounded and reinforced by stones stacked together, aimed at solidifying the soil, preventing erosion, and providing stable arable land. After a century of erosion from wind and rain, these stone terraces remain sturdy, showcasing the wisdom and perseverance of the ancestors. Currently, these terraces are still used by local villagers to cultivate various crops.
