Hundred-Year Stone Steps Rice Terraces Introduction
The stone terraced fields, with a history of over a hundred years, are located in the Guanghua (Dingbenzi) area of Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County. They are a testament to the hard work of the early settlers of Dingbenzi. These terraces were built by the early residents to facilitate farming on the hillside, with each field surrounded by walls made from stacked natural stones, aimed at consolidating the soil, preventing erosion, and providing stable farmland. Despite a century of erosion from the elements, these stone terraced fields remain sturdy, showcasing the wisdom and perseverance of the ancestors. Currently, these terraces are still in use by local villagers for planting various crops.
