Centennial Stone Terraced Fields Introduction
The stone terraced fields, which have a history of over a century, are located in the Guanghua (Dingbanzai) area of Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County. These terraces are a testament to the hard work of the early settlers in Dingbanzai. The terraced fields were built by the early residents to cultivate on sloping land, where the boundaries and walls of each field were constructed using stacked natural stones to reinforce the soil, prevent soil erosion, and provide stable farmland. After a century of erosion by wind and rain, these stone terraces remain sturdy, showcasing the wisdom and perseverance of the ancestors. Today, these terraces are still used by local villagers to grow various crops.
