Renyi Lake Reservoir Introduction
Renyi Reservoir is located upstream of the Bajhang Creek in Fanlu Township, Chiayi County, and is classified as an earth-fill dam reservoir. It has a catchment area of 3.66 square kilometers, a dam crest length of 1,535 meters, a width of 9 meters, and an annual water supply capacity of 52 million metric tons. The construction of the reservoir began in April 1980 and was completed with water storage starting in June 1987. The water source comes from Bajhang Creek, which is introduced into the reservoir via a sedimentation basin. The intake is located approximately 50 meters downstream of the Wufeng Bridge along Provincial Highway 3, where a water diversion dam is set up, channeling water through a 1.5-kilometer diversion to Renyi Reservoir. It is interconnected with Lan Reservoir to supply domestic water for a population of around 400,000 to 500,000 in the Greater Chiayi area. Renyi Reservoir provides drinking water for the entire Chiayi City and County. The surrounding scenery is picturesque, with lush greenery and a well-planned dike path along the shore, where couples can often be seen, and there are many visitors walking and exercising, flying kites, jogging, and walking dogs in the early morning and evening. The aesthetically pleasing Renyi Reservoir, situated in Fanlu Township, has a naturally irregular shape that adds to its beauty, making it the perfect recreational destination for the public on weekends.
