Chiayi County Performing Arts Center Introduction
The large performing arts center established in Chiayi County in recent years is designed based on the concept of a cultural park, covering a very broad area. The center occupies 6.1 hectares and has an indoor area of 9,000 ping. The facilities include a performance hall, a small theater, large and small rehearsal studios, an outdoor theater, a gallery, a media classroom, a visitor service area, a café, cultural shops, a waterside stage, a multifunctional performance pavilion, and a parent-child pavilion. In addition to promoting performance culture, it also features characteristics of leisure and tourism. The main design integrates local culture with an international perspective, along with essential commercial needs. Notably, visitors in the park can be both audience and performers, with a strong emphasis on creating a welcoming space and atmosphere. It also includes opportunities for playful activities and encounters with art and culture, aiming to inspire a sense of cultural identity through the use of locally-inspired architecture. Many large cultural and artistic events are currently held here. ◎ Performance Hall: A theater with a capacity of 1,000-1,200 seats in a proscenium layout. ◎ Exhibition Area: Displays of community art and cultural study results, information about performing groups, and artworks by artists. ◎ Media Classroom: Regular screenings of recordings of cultural activities, small seminars, and meetings. ◎ Theater: A performance-specific theater with a capacity of 400 seats. ◎ Small Rehearsal Room: Provides space for community studies in drama, dance, and music. ◎ Large Rehearsal Room: Rehearsal space for resident theater groups and warm-ups for performing groups. ◎ Outdoor Performance Pavilion: Primarily for experimental and louder performances, it also serves as a space for rest, meditation, and observation. ◎ Multifunctional Performance Pavilion: Hosts community performance activities, youth gatherings, morning exercises, and singing. ◎ Waterside Stage: For traditional opera performances, such as Nanguan and Beiguan music, Taiwanese opera, and shadow puppetry, it also serves as a space for tea drinking, resting, and chatting. ◎ Cultural Shopping Street: Includes bookstores, stationery stores, community art and cultural product displays for sale, coffee shops, and more. ◎ Restaurant: Provides dining services for audiences and visitors to the park.
