Tamsui Cultural A-Gei Introduction
A-Gei comes from the Japanese words "油揚あげ" (abura age), which means "fried tofu skin." At "Cultural A-Gei," located near Tamkang University on Zhenli Street, the authentic fish paste, winter noodles, and stuffed fried tofu with special seasoning often attract many celebrities and artists, boosting the popularity of this eatery. Every morning around three o'clock, the owner starts to manually cut the fried tofu, filling it with winter noodles sautéed in soy sauce, scallions, and spices, then sealing it with fresh fish paste before steaming it. The combination of the elastic fried tofu, noodles, and fish paste creates an exceptional texture. The usual way to enjoy it is to scoop out the noodles, allowing them to soak up the owner's special sauce for a unique flavor, often paired with a bowl of fish ball soup, making the taste intriguing. On holidays, there is always a long line in front of the store.
