Tamsui Cultural A-Gei Introduction
A-Gei comes from the Japanese word "油揚あげ (abura a ge)," which means "fried tofu skin." Located near Tamkang University on Zhenli Street, "Cultural A-Gei" attracts many celebrities and artists with its authentic ingredients and the unique taste of its fish paste, mung bean noodles, and fried tofu fillings and sauces, boosting the popularity of this eatery. Every day around three in the morning, the owner starts manually cutting open the fried tofu, filling it with mung bean noodles that have been stir-fried with soy sauce, scallions, and spices, and then sealing it with fresh fish paste before steaming it. The combination of the chewy fried tofu, noodles, and fish paste creates an exceptional texture. The common way to enjoy it is to scoop out the noodles from inside the fried tofu, allowing them to soak up the owner's special sauce, which has a unique flavor, typically accompanied by a bowl of fish ball soup that is truly enchanting. On weekends, there is always a long line in front of the shop.
