In the past, the Tamsui River was deep enough to accommodate large vessels, making it a very important port area after the Tamsui opened as a trade port. The "Degi Li Shipping Company" was one of the top five shipping companies in Tamsui at that time (Deji, Heji, Yiji, Degi Li, and Baoshun). Notably, the "Degi Li Shipping Company" not only had general trading functions typical of shipping companies, but shipping was also its main business, having dominated the Taiwan shipping route for thirty years. It witnessed the vigorous development following the opening of Tamsui Port, including the fact that the ship "Hailong" operated by the "Degi Li Shipping Company" was the vessel that Dr. Mackay took when he arrived in Taiwan. Starting in 2023, it serves as the exhibition space for a micro-museum of Tamsui heritage.
