Shuanglianpi Wildlife Sanctuary Introduction
Shuanglian Pond is located in the mountainous basin of Huxi Village, Yuanshan Township, Yilan, near the Fushan Botanical Garden. It is a natural dammed lake composed of two lakes, known locally as the Upper Pond and Lower Pond, although the Lower Pond has turned into a marsh and only the Upper Pond retains its water source. The area of Shuanglian Pond encompasses one-third of all aquatic plant species in Taiwan, making it a rich paradise for aquatic plants. Shuanglian Pond is often shrouded in thick fog, revealing a vast expanse of creeping vines, with rows of bamboo swaying in the wind along the shore. The sounds of chirping insects and singing birds, accompanied by the croaking of frogs, along with the reflections on the lake surface, create a pastoral poetic scene, attracting numerous filmmakers to shoot here. Another unique ecological landscape of Shuanglian Pond is a rare spectacle in Taiwan. Between the two lakes, there is a plant floating island roughly the size of a soccer field, composed of various aquatic plants that move during typhoons. Each movement reshuffles the distribution of the underwater plants. Due to the uniqueness of the floating island, it nurtures various fish, shrimp, dragonflies, frogs, and other insects, thereby attracting many migratory and resident birds, making it an ideal habitat for them. Therefore, on weekends, why not take a stroll in Shuanglian Pond and plan a trip to embrace the beauty of nature?
