Shuanglianpi Wildlife Reserve Introduction

Shuanglian Pond is located in a mountainous basin in Huzhi Village, Yuanshan Township, Yilan County, near the Fushan Botanical Garden. It consists of two natural dammed lakes, known locally as the Upper Pond and the Lower Pond; however, the Lower Pond has transformed into a marshland, leaving only the Upper Pond with a water source. Shuanglian Pond is home to one-third of Taiwan's aquatic plant species, making it a rich ecological paradise for aquatic plants. The pond is often enveloped in dense fog, revealing a vast expanse of creeping vines, with occasional bamboo groves swaying in the breeze by the lakeside, accompanied by the sounds of chirping insects and birds, along with the occasional ribbit of frogs, creating a pastoral poetic scene that has attracted countless films for location shooting. Another unique ecological feature of Shuanglian Pond, a rare sight in Taiwan, is a floating island of vegetation about the size of a football field, made up of various aquatic plants that move with the arrival of typhoons, reshuffling the plants in the water and redistributing territories with each movement. The uniqueness of the floating island nourishes diverse fish, shrimp, dragonflies, and frog species, and attracts various migratory and resident birds, making it an ideal habitat for them. Thus, on weekends, consider visiting Shuanglian Pond to plan a nature-inspired intellectual journey.
