If you want to capture a 360-degree panoramic view of the greater Taoyuan area, you don't need to challenge high altitudes to achieve it! Located less than 5 kilometers from Taoyuan Railway Station, Hutoushan, with an elevation of only 251 meters in the Environmental Park, stands as the highest point in the city, offering unobstructed beautiful views of the sparkling stars and city lights. It has always been a popular scenic spot for locals. Known as the "Star Park," Hutoushan Environmental Park covers about 2.5 hectares and was originally a landfill for Taoyuan City. After its closure at the end of 1998 and a redesign in August 2002, it successfully shed its "infamy" and transformed into a pleasant green space on the outskirts of the city. The park employs natural ecological methods throughout to minimize unnecessary environmental damage. Facilities within the Environmental Park include walking paths, wooden gazebos, large lawns, and mosaic seating. Unlike the original dense woodlands of Hutoushan Park, the Environmental Park offers expansive views overlooking Lujhu, Dayuan, Bade, and Zhongli, with many families enjoying walks and play during the day. In the evening, visitors can also admire the dazzling city nightscape, which is truly enchanting. The Environmental Park is located only about 1 kilometer from the most well-preserved Japanese shrine in Taiwan—the Taoyuan Martyrs' Shrine and Cultural Park. Travelers might consider planning a dual-theme trip that combines nature and culture to explore the beauty of Taoyuan from different perspectives.
