Fu Gang Old Street Introduction
Adjacent to the Fuzhong Railway Station, Fuzhong Old Street's development history is closely linked to the establishment of the train station. In 1908, when it was still known as Bogong Station, Fuzhong Railway Station attracted a steady flow of people and prosperity to this agricultural town, making the old street area along Zhongzheng Road the earliest developed area of Bogong, bustling with vendors and lively scenes. However, with the rerouting of the railway, its flourishing days came to an end, leaving only the exotic western-style architecture as a testament to the past glory of the once-bustling transit hub. The Lu Family Mansion, located on Zhongzheng Road, is the most representative building of the old street. Spanning five shop fronts and two stories high, its exterior showcases a grandiose appearance. Ornate Baroque elements; a central dome, Greek pediments, symmetrical Roman columns, and exquisite carvings reveal the affluent lifestyle of its owners. Construction of the Lu Mansion began in 1929 and took two years to complete, remaining a prominent landmark in the old street for decades. In contrast to the Lu Mansion, the buildings on Xinyi Street appear more modest, with red bricks and arcades. Walking through them offers a serene glimpse into the simple lives of local families, transporting visitors back to the tranquil times of the Shōwa period.
