Fu Gang Old Street Introduction
Adjacent to Fuyuan Train Station, Fuyuan Old Street has a development history closely related to the establishment of the train station. In 1908, when it was still called Bogong Station, Fuyuan Train Station attracted a steady flow of people and prosperity to this agricultural town, making the Zhongzheng Road old street area the earliest developed region of Bogong, bustling with vendors and lively scenes. However, as the railway was rerouted, the vibrant years came to a halt, leaving behind only the exotic Western-style buildings that witness the former glory of the bustling traffic. The Lü Family Mansion, located on Zhongzheng Road, is the most representative building of the old street. Spanning five shopfronts and two stories, the architecture exhibits a grand appearance. The splendid Baroque elements, central dome, Greek triangular gables, symmetrical Roman columns, and intricate carvings reveal the affluent lifestyle of its owner. The Lü residence began construction in 1929 and took two years to complete, remaining a distinctive landmark of the old street for decades. In contrast to the Lü residence, the street houses on Xinyi Street appear more modest, featuring red bricks and arcades. Walking through, one can feel the tranquil and simple life of the local ordinary families, transporting time back to the Showa era.
