Fugang Old Street Introduction
Adjacent to the Fuguang Railway Station, Fuguang Old Street has a history closely tied to the establishment of the train station. In 1908, the Fuguang Railway Station, then known as Bogonggang Station, was built, which gathered flowing crowds and prosperity in this agricultural town. The old street area along Zhongzheng Road, taking advantage of its geographical location, became the earliest developed area of Bogonggang, bustling with vendors and vibrant activity. However, with the rerouting of the railway, this period of glory came to an end. Today, only the exotic Western-style buildings remain, witnessing the once-bustling scene of trains and people. The Lü Family Mansion (Lü Jia Sheng Western Building), located on Zhongzheng Road, is the most representative building of the old street. With a facade spanning five shops and a two-story structure, the building exudes grandeur. The elaborate Baroque elements, central dome, Greek triangular pediment, symmetrical Roman columns, and intricate carvings reveal the owner's affluent lifestyle. The Lü residence began construction in 1929 and was completed after two years, serving as a prominent landmark of the old street for decades. In contrast to the Lü residence, the buildings along Xinyi Street appear more modest, featuring red bricks and arcades. Strolling through them offers a serene and tranquil experience, reminiscent of the everyday life of local families, transporting one back in time to the Shōwa era.
