Tucheng Old Street Introduction
Fuqing Old Street, adjacent to Fuqing Train Station, has a development history closely intertwined with the construction of the train station. Established in 1908, when it was still known as Boguang Station, Fuqing Train Station gathered crowds and prosperity for this agricultural town, leading to the emergence of a vibrant commercial area along Zhongzheng Road, making it the earliest developed region in Boguang. Vendors set up stalls, creating a lively scene. However, as the railway was rerouted, this vibrant era came to an end, leaving behind only exotic Western-style buildings that bear witness to the glorious past of people coming and going by train. The Lü Family Western-style House, located on Zhongzheng Road, is the most representative building of the old street. Spanning five storefronts and two stories high, its grand facade showcases an imposing presence. The elegant Baroque elements, including a central dome, Greek triangular gables, symmetrical Roman columns, and intricate carvings, reveal the extraordinary wealth of the owner. Construction of the Lü residence began in 1929 and took two years to complete. After several decades, it remains a prominent landmark of the old street. In contrast to the Lü residence, the street houses on Xinyi Street appear more modest, with red bricks and arcades. Walking through this area allows one to experience the serene and simple life of the local residents, transporting visitors back in time to the Shōwa era.
