Xinan Lake Mouth Hsien-sheng Temple Introduction
Situated in a bustling area, the Hsien Shen Temple boasts an imposing appearance with its grand architecture. The entrance features two ancient-style archways, and crossing through them leads to a spacious temple courtyard, flanked by concrete buildings. The opera stage is located between the two archways, providing a venue for celebrations to honor the deities and entertain visitors. In front of the San Chuan Gate stands a pair of stone lions for protection. Stepping onto the porch of the San Chuan Hall, the walls on both sides are adorned with intricate stone carvings crafted by dedicated artisans. Crossing the threshold into the San Chuan Hall, this is where believers offer their initial prayers upon entering the temple; looking towards the inner courtyard, the interplay of light and shadow adds to the depth and mystery of the main hall, which exudes solemnity and grandeur. On the left side of the hall is the office, while the right side hall enshrines the gods of Yue Fei, Bao Gong, and the gods of the faithful followers. Turning left past the side hall and facing the main hall reveals a splendid and richly decorated space that reflects a deep sense of reverence. The main deity worshipped is the Holy Mother, with the left side dedicated to the Goddess of Childbirth and the right to the Nine Heavens Mysterious Lady. The second floor is dedicated to Guanyin (Avalokiteshvara), accompanied by the God of War (Guan Yu) and Confucius, with a simple and unpretentious arrangement. The "Hsien Shen Temple" holds an annual celebration on the 23rd day of the third lunar month to mark the Holy Mother's birthday, organized in rotation by the believers from the four townships it governs.
