Maze Alley - Feng Fei-fei's Former Residence Introduction
When visiting Daxi, don't just crowd into the bustling old street; discovering the hidden gem—the former residence of the famous singer Feng Fei-fei is truly impressive! Located next to the Furen Temple on Heping Old Street, known locally as "Houweizi," stepping into this narrow, winding alley feels like entering an unpredictable maze. The once lively scene is suddenly replaced by the sounds of roosters and dogs. Amidst the earth-structured houses and stone walls, rounding a corner, you’ll find the unassuming home of the "Hat Queen" Feng Fei-fei, featuring an inconspicuous two-wheeled wooden cart, several coconut trees, and a century-old well that records the days of her "flowing years." Have you noticed? The buildings here lack the grandeur of the old street, presenting instead the most ordinary low-rise street scenery, which adds to the authenticity of the local flavor. During the prosperous river transport era along the Dahan River, many hired workers from other regions built grass houses alongside the river steps in "Houweizi." This small area features various types of structures, such as a Temple of Earth God, stone courtyards, tile-roofed houses, and distinctive brick patterns, allowing residents the freedom to decide on height and width. Every corner in "Houweizi" offers a unique surprise; no two scenes are replicated. If you want to hear some local tales, head to the small living room at the end of Caodianwei, diagonally across from Feng Fei-fei's former residence. This spot, operated by local residents, serves as an inquiry station, allowing you to explore stories not found in any travel book, and it also serves as a community gathering space filled with warmth. Additionally, the small living room functions as a venue for local cultural and creative exhibitions and an art workshop. Design master Hsiao Ching-yang once collaborated here with students from Zhishan High School and local neighbors to hold the "Love Wood Living Room Space Exhibition." This small alley holds immense creative energy. Welcome to this street corner museum, where you can embark on a treasure hunt and uncover its mysteries.
