Maze Alley - Feng Fei-Fei's Former Residence Introduction
When visiting Daxi, don't just crowd into the bustling old street; it's much more impressive to discover the hidden gem - the former residence of Feng Fei-fei! Located beside Furen Temple on Heping Old Street, known locally as "Hauweizi", entering this narrow winding alley feels like stepping into an unpredictable maze; what was once a scene of lively chatter now only echoes with the sounds of roosters and barking dogs. As you weave through the earthen houses and stone walls, round a corner, and find yourself at the former residence of the hat singer - Feng Fei-fei, marked by an unassuming two-wheeled wooden cart, a few coconut trees in the yard, and a century-old well that recalls her "flowing years." Have you noticed? The architecture here lacks the grandeur of the old street, featuring nothing more than the ordinary low houses that exude a simple folk charm. Back when the Dahan River's shipping was thriving, many workers from other places built their thatched houses near the riverside of "Hauweizi", where the small neighborhood includes a local deity temple, stone courtyards, traditional tile-roofed houses, earthen walls, and various styles of buildings defined by the owners. In "Hauweizi", every corner presents a surprise, with no two views replicating one another. If you want to hear stories from the locals, head to the small living room at Caodianwei, right across from Feng Fei-fei’s former residence. This place, run by local residents, serves as an inquiry station, allowing you not just to scratch the surface of your visit but to uncover many tales not found in travel books. It also serves as a gathering place for community members, filled with a sense of humanity. In addition, the small living room is also a venue for local cultural creative exhibitions and an art workshop. Design master Hsieh Ching-yang has collaborated here with students from Zhishan High School and local residents to hold the "Love Wood Living Room Space Exhibition," showcasing the immense creative energy hidden in this little alley. Welcome to this street corner museum to explore and treasure hunt together.
