Maze Alley - Feng Fei-fei's Former Residence Introduction
When visiting Daxi, don't just crowd into the bustling old street, but capture the hidden gem - the Hsing-Feng-Feng House! Located next to the Furen Temple on Heping Old Street, known to locals as "Hau-Wo-Zai," stepping into this narrow, winding lane feels like entering an unpredictable maze; the once lively scene quickly turns to the sounds of crowing roosters and barking dogs. As you weave through traditional earth houses and stone walls, turning a corner reveals the home of the hat song queen – the Hsing-Feng-Feng House, featuring an unassuming wooden cart, a few coconut trees in the courtyard, and a hundred-year-old well, all echoing the memories of Sister Feng's "flowing years." Have you noticed? The architecture here lacks the splendid demeanor of the old street and instead presents a humble street view of low houses, which adds a simplistic, common-folk charm. In the days when the Dahan River's transport flourished, many external workers built grass huts near the riverbank at "Hau-Wo-Zai." The small district features various house types, including a Tudi Gong Temple, stone courtyards, "wearing tile shirts," Douzi walls, Yan-Zhi bricks, TR marked bricks, with heights and widths varying according to the homeowners; in "Hau-Wo-Zai," no scene is replicated, and every corner offers a surprise. If you want to hear local stories, head to the small lounge at Caodianwei, directly across from the Hsing-Feng-Feng House. Run by locals from Daxi, this inquiry station allows you to not only see the sights but also discover many anecdotes not found in travel books. It also serves as a gathering spot for community members, exuding warmth everywhere. Additionally, the small lounge is a venue for local cultural and creative exhibitions, as well as an art workshop. Design master Hsiao Ching-yang once collaborated here with students from Zhishan High School and local neighbors to hold the "Love Wood Lounge Space Exhibition," showcasing the immense creative energy nestled in this tiny alley. Welcome to this corner museum, where you can uncover treasures and secrets together.
