Maze Alley - Feng Fei-fei's Former Residence Introduction
When visiting Daxi, don't just squeeze into the crowded old street; capturing the hidden gem - the home of Feng Fei-fei is the real deal! Located next to the Furen Gong Temple on Heping Old Street, known locally as "Houweizi," stepping into this narrow winding lane feels like entering an unpredictable maze. The lively scene transforms in an instant, leaving only the sounds of roosters and dogs. As you weave through earthen houses and stone walls, turn a corner, and there stands the home of the hat singer - Feng Fei-fei, accompanied by an unremarkable double-wheeled wooden cart, a few coconut trees in the courtyard, and a century-old well, all recording the once-flowing years of Sister Feng. Did you notice? The architecture here lacks the glamorous façade of the old street, presenting a more mundane view with low houses, which adds a touch of rustic charm. In the heyday of the Dahan River's transportation, many outside workers built straw houses along the riverside "Houweizi." This small area encompasses a variety of structures, including a local earth god temple, stone courtyards, traditional tile-roofed houses, wooden brick patterns, and specific marked bricks; the heights and widths vary according to the owner's choice, making every corner in "Houweizi" a unique surprise. If you want to hear local stories, consider visiting the small lounge "Caodianwei," located diagonally across from Feng Fei-fei's home. Operated by locals from Daxi, this information station not only allows you to explore the area but also uncovers many intriguing tales that aren't found in travel books. It also serves as a community gathering place, reflecting the warmth of local hospitality. Besides, this lounge is also a venue for local cultural creativity exhibitions and an art workshop. Designer Hsiao Ching-yang once collaborated here with students from Zhishan High School and local neighbors for the "Love Wood Cozy Lounge Space Exhibition." This tiny lane holds significant creative energy. Welcome to this corner museum for a treasure hunt of secrets!
