Daxi Old Street Introduction
The Matsu Wood Art Ecology Museum (Old City Area Tour Route) will now gather at the Historical Museum (No. 23 Puji Road, Daxi District). Daxi is the earliest developed area in Taoyuan. Through small sailboats navigating the Dahan River, it flourished in trade with mainland China, leading to numerous businesses and merchants. During the Japanese Taisho era, the Baroque architectural style became popular, and the old streets such as Heping Road and Zhongshan Road featured various shops combining Baroque ornate style with traditional Minnan decorative patterns. This blend includes Greek pediments, Roman columns, and Chinese auspicious symbols like fish and bats, creating a unique Daxi characteristic. Heping Old Street, developed later, has better-preserved old buildings and is bustling with unique shops. Notable attractions around Daxi Old Street include Daxi Bridge, Li Tengfang Ancient Residence, temples, cultural monuments such as the Wude Hall, and the Matsu Wood Art Ecology Museum. Of course, you must also savor traditional Taiwanese snacks on the old street and experience Taiwanese childhood games. Particularly, Daxi's tofu, mooncakes, peanut candy, douhua (tofu pudding), bowl cake, and tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) are must-try local delicacies! It is definitely one of the places to visit in Taoyuan to experience authentic Taiwanese flavors!
