Daxi Old Street Introduction
The Matsu Wood Art Ecological Museum (Old Town Tour Route) will now gather at the Historical Museum (No. 23, Puji Road, Daxi District). Daxi is the earliest developed area in Taoyuan. Through small sailboats on the Dahan River, trade with the mainland flourished, resulting in numerous businesses and merchants. During the Japanese Taisho era, the Baroque architectural style became popular, and old streets such as Heping Road and Zhongshan Road featured shops that combined Baroque embellishments with traditional Minnan decorative patterns, including motifs of Greek hilltops, Roman columns, and Chinese symbols such as fish and bats that represent good fortune, creating a unique Daxi character. Heping Old Street, developed later, has better-preserved old houses, and the street is bustling with distinctive shops. Surrounding Daxi Old Street are notable attractions such as Daxi Bridge, Li Tengfang Old Residence, ancient temples, cultural monuments of Wude Hall, and the Matsu Wood Art Ecological Museum. Don't miss the chance to taste traditional Taiwanese snacks on the old street, experience Taiwanese traditional toys, and especially try Daxi tofu, mooncakes, peanut candy, douhua (tofu pudding), bowl rice cake, and tangyuan (glutinous rice balls), all of which are must-try authentic Taiwanese delicacies! It is definitely one of the essential spots in Taoyuan to experience true Taiwanese flavors!
