Daxi Old Street Introduction
The Wood Art Ecological Museum (Old Town Tour Route) will now gather at the Historical Museum (No. 23, Puji Road, Daxi District). Daxi is the earliest developed area in Taoyuan. Through small sailboats navigating the Dahan River, it thrived in trade with the mainland, leading to the establishment of many businesses and merchants. During the Japanese colonial Taisho era, the Baroque architectural style became popular, and the old streets like Heping Road and Zhongshan Road feature businesses combining Baroque embellishments with traditional Minnan decorative patterns, including Greek pediments, Roman columns, and Chinese symbols of good fortune such as fish and bats, creating a unique Daxi特色. Heping Old Street, having been developed later, has better-preserved old houses and is bustling with distinctive shops. Notable attractions near Daxi Old Street include Daxi Bridge, the Li Tengfang Residence, ancient temples, cultural heritage sites like the Wude Temple, and the Wood Art Ecological Museum. Of course, one must also sample traditional Taiwanese snacks along the old street and experience classic Taiwanese toys, especially Daxi tofu, moon cakes, peanut candy, douhua (tofu pudding), bowl cakes, and tangyuan (glutinous rice balls), all of which are must-try authentic Taiwanese delicacies! It is definitely one of the must-visit spots in Taoyuan to experience the true taste of Taiwan!
