Daxi Old Street Introduction
To alleviate the traffic congestion and parking demand around Daxi Old Street during holidays, a free shuttle bus service from "Yuemei Parking Lot to Daxi Old Street" is now available on weekends. Starting today, the Wood Art Ecological Museum (Old Town guided tour route) will meet at the Historical Museum (No. 23 Pujih Road, Daxi District). Daxi is the earliest developed area in Taoyuan. Through small boats navigating the Dahan River, it thrived on trade with the mainland, leading to the establishment of many shops and merchants. During the Japanese colonial Taisho era, the Baroque architectural style flourished, and the old streets such as Heping Road and Zhongshan Road feature shops that blend Baroque decorative style with traditional Minnan decorative patterns, including Greek pediments, Roman columns, and Chinese motifs such as fish and bats, which symbolize auspiciousness, creating a unique Daxi style. Heping Old Street, developed later, has better-preserved old buildings, and the street is bustling with distinctive shops. Surrounding Daxi Old Street are well-known attractions such as Daxi Bridge, the former residence of Li Teng-fang, ancient temples and historical sites, the Wude Hall cultural heritage site, and the Daxi Wood Art Ecological Museum. Of course, don't miss the chance to taste traditional Taiwanese snacks and experience Taiwanese folk toys. Notable local delicacies include Daxi tofu, moon cakes, peanut candies, douhua (tofu pudding), bowl rice cake, and tangyuan (glutinous rice balls), all of which are must-try authentic Taiwanese foods! It is definitely one of the attractions to visit in Taoyuan to experience the true flavor of Taiwan!
