Daxi Old Street Introduction
The Matsu Wood Art Ecological Museum (Old Town Tour Route) will now gather at the Historical Museum (No. 23, Puji Road, Daxi District). Daxi is the earliest developed area in Taoyuan. Through the sailing of small boats on the Dahan River for trade with the mainland, many businesses and merchants were established. During the Japanese colonial Taisho era, Baroque architectural style became popular, and old streets like Heping Road and Zhongshan Road showcase a fusion of Baroque decorative motifs and traditional Minnan decorative patterns, including Greek pediments, Roman columns, and Chinese symbols of good fortune like fish and bats, creating a unique character of Daxi. Heping Old Street, developed later, has preserved its old houses better, with a bustling atmosphere filled with distinctive shops. Surrounding Daxi Old Street are famous attractions like Daxi Bridge, Li Teng-fang Ancient Residence, temple antiquities, Wude Hall cultural heritage, and the Matsu Wood Art Ecological Museum. Don't miss the chance to taste traditional Taiwanese snacks from the old streets and experience Taiwanese folk games, especially the Daxi tofu, moon cakes, peanut candy, douhua (tofu pudding), bowl cakes, and tangyuan (glutinous rice balls), all of which are must-try local delicacies! It is definitely a must-visit spot in Taoyuan to experience authentic Taiwanese flavors!
