Daxi Old Street Introduction
The woodcraft ecology museum (Old Town area guided tour) will now gather at the Historical Museum (23 Puji Road, Daxi District). Daxi is the earliest developed area in Taoyuan. Through small sailing boats on the Dahan River, trade with the mainland flourished, leading to many businesses and merchants. During the Japanese colonial Taisho era, the Baroque architectural style became popular, and old streets like Heping Road and Zhongshan Road feature a blend of Baroque ornamentalism and traditional Minnan decorative patterns, including elements like Greek pediments, Roman columns, and Chinese symbols of good fortune such as fish and bats, creating a unique Daxi characteristic. Heping Old Street, developed later, has better-preserved old houses, and the street is bustling with distinctive shops. Around Daxi Old Street, there are well-known attractions like Daxi Bridge, Li Teng-fang Old Residence, ancient temples, the Wude Hall cultural heritage site, and the Daxi Woodcraft Ecology Museum. Of course, one must also taste the traditional Taiwanese snacks available on the old street, experiencing Taiwanese children's games. In particular, Daxi tofu, moon cakes, peanut candy, douhua, bowl rice cakes, and tangyuan are must-try authentic Taiwanese delicacies! It is definitely one of the must-visit spots in Taoyuan to experience the true taste of Taiwan!
