Daan Farm and Dafan Flatland Forest Park Introduction
The Daan-Dafu Flatland Forest Park is located in Guangfu Township, Hualien County, situated in the Huatung Valley, flanked by the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range. Traveling south through the valley, one would reach the mid-section, passing by the smokestack of the Hualien Sugar Factory, followed by an extensive stretch of continuous forest. The outskirts of the forest tell a history written by diverse ethnic groups. Taiwan is a beautiful island filled with forests, but centuries of development have pushed the primary forests out of the plains. Starting in the 21st century, the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency (formerly known as the Council of Agriculture's Forestry Bureau) has actively promoted afforestation in the flatlands. After ten years, the people of Hualien now boast the nation's first flatland forest—Daan-Dafu Flatland Forest Park. Nestled between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range, the park spans 1,250 hectares, equivalent to 48 Daan Forest Parks, making it a true super carbon-absorbing and oxygen-generating machine. Here, nearly 20 species of common low-elevation trees are planted, totaling over one million trees that are beautiful, useful, and closely linked to human life. They nurture the land, providing for humans and other animals' daily needs, with their elegance and colors composing the most beautiful pages of earthly poetry. The overall planning of Daan-Dafu Flatland Forest Park integrates surrounding agriculture, urban-rural culture, community building, and environmental education industries and resources, creating an ecological, energy-efficient, carbon-reducing, and health-oriented design. The goal is to form a diverse intellectual tourism space, connecting with recreational spots within the valley to offer quality recreational services, while also hoping to promote sustainable re-creativity for flatland forests, local ecological landscapes, residents' lives, and the national physical and mental health, as well as the environmental industry.
