Matang Wetland Ecological Park Introduction
Mataian Wetland is a verdant natural paradise, where the Fuden Stream meanders from south to north, nourishing the rich ecology of this marshland. Riding a bicycle along the gentle stream, one can discover traces of fish, shrimp, shellfish, and snails in every small waterway, teeming with vibrant life. The Amis people have developed the "Balagaw" fishing method in this wetland, using natural materials such as bamboo, paperbark tree, and cyperus branches to create a three-tiered structure placed in the stream, providing fish and shrimp with a space to forage and shelter, making it easier to catch the catch. The Balagaw fishing method does not involve mass capture at once, allowing the ecology to thrive continuously, showing respect for nature. After enjoying the ecology, visitors can also head to the nearby Mataian Cultural Center to appreciate the vibrant wooden sculptures created by indigenous artists; or leisurely ride a bicycle along the T-shaped wooden boardwalk, savoring the lush scenery surrounding the area, making the entire journey a true ecological adventure!
