Hualien Sugar Factory Introduction
The sugar factory has now become the center for tourism and leisure development in the central area of Hualien. It preserves a row of orderly Japanese-style wooden dormitories built during the Japanese colonial period, which has a history of over a century. The traditional and diverse architectural styles and elegant shapes make it the largest surviving cluster of Japanese wooden structures in Taiwan. Of course, when visiting the sugar factory, it's a good opportunity to learn about the production of white sugar, which is commonly seen in our daily lives, and the differences between fine granulated sugar, rock sugar, brown sugar, and black sugar. Although large-scale sugar production is no longer carried out today, since 2002, the Hualien Sugar Factory has transformed into a tourism-oriented facility, developing into a park with functions of tourism, leisure, education, culture, and experience. The future development of the factory site will be positioned as a "Cultural and Creative Leisure Park of the Sugar Industry," serving as a testament to history and becoming an important tourist attraction promoting Hualien. Transportation: ● Public Transport 1. Take the Taiwan Railways East Coast Line train and get off at Hualien Guangfu Station, then walk about 10 minutes to reach the factory. Taiwan Tourist Shuttle (Zhongguo Hualien Line) - Take the 303 line (low-floor bus) and get off at Hualien Sugar Factory Station. ● By Car Drive along Provincial Highway 9 and turn east at the 7-11 store located at 251.5K to enter the park.
