On the halfway up the mountain from Emei Township in Hsinchu County, you will encounter a steep, narrow slope that opens up to a vast and tranquil grove of trees, which is home to the Zheng Yongguo Ceramic Art Studio. Zheng Yongguo habitually expresses his unique interpretation of life experiences through ceramics, drawing from anthropological and philosophical perspectives. Within seemingly inconspicuous shards of pottery lies the spirit and wisdom of ancient potters that he seeks to pursue. "Every time I develop a new series of works, it feels like a new beginning for me." Zheng Yongguo believes that ceramics differ from other art forms; no matter how unique one’s ideas may be, they must undergo the trial of fire before their true character is revealed. Although materials and knowledge will advance with time, ceramics remain rooted in the era of handcrafted artistry. For example, the method of wheel throwing represents a dialogue between human will and mechanical civilization, embodying a form of economical aesthetics, as seen in his series such as "Flowing Clay" and "Woman Vase."
