Antong Hot Springs Introduction
Antung Hot Springs is located by the Antung River in Yuli Township, Hualien County. In its early years, it was renowned as "Antung Zhuangnuo," one of the eight scenic spots in Hualien. The spring water is nearly transparent and is classified as a weak alkaline sulfate spring, containing over 15 minerals known as "Beauty Water." Visitors, both heroes and beauties, are invited to experience the remarkable journey shared with Hualien. According to historical records, Antung Hot Springs was discovered by Japanese workers eight years prior to the establishment of the Republic of China, and after a public bathhouse was built in the 19th year of the Republic, it has continuously undergone renovation and expansion to its current scale. With a history spanning over a century, it is one of Hualien's eight scenic spots. The spring quality is categorized as a chloride sulfate spring, which is weakly alkaline and beneficial for promoting blood circulation, alleviating gastrointestinal discomfort, soothing skin conditions, and treating gynecological issues. The water temperature reaches up to 66 degrees Celsius, allowing visitors to enjoy delicious onsen eggs while soaking in the hot springs. During the Japanese occupation, the government constructed a tatami-style bungalow made entirely of cypress wood for the police bureau's guesthouse, which remains well-preserved with its exterior intact and is now designated as a historical monument by the Ministry of Culture. A new two-story Western-style hot spring hotel has also been built in the area, featuring traditional Japanese landscaping throughout. Soaking in the outdoor pools of Antung Hot Springs feels like being in an antique Japanese garden, providing a unique charm. The water quality is nearly transparent and is categorized as a weakly alkaline chloride sulfate spring, with a hint of hydrogen sulfide odor. The spring water temperature is approximately 66 degrees Celsius, and the volume is abundant, with hot springs distributed along the Antung River for about two to three hundred meters. Immersing in the hot spring water allows one to feel the smoothness on the skin, which remains tender even after leaving the water. It is said to have therapeutic effects on skin diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, gynecological ailments, and external injuries.
