Qilai Nose Lighthouse Introduction
The Qilai Nose Lighthouse, built in 1931, is located at the northern end of Hualien Port on Cape Qilai. Originally a white square lighthouse, it was destroyed by American planes during World War II and ceased to operate due to severe damage. In 1963, to facilitate the opening of Hualien Port as an international port, customs rebuilt a white pentagonal concrete lighthouse nearby, which is the only pentagonal reinforced concrete lighthouse in the country and is currently not open for public visits. A nearby path leads to a viewing platform where visitors can enjoy a view comparable to that from the lighthouse. To see the lighthouse's exterior, one can visit the nearby Hualien Environmental Park.
