Changhong Bridge Recreation Area Introduction

The elegant arch of the Changhong Bridge spans across the mouth of the Xiuguluan River, creating a beautiful rainbow reflection at the intersection of mountains and sea, which has become a famous photo landmark on the East Coast. This location is also the endpoint for river rafting, where tired yet satisfied rafts dock here. Walking along the trail by the river, water birds forage skillfully along the riverbed, while bicycles come and go, and the surrounding plants change with the seasons. If you feel tired, you might take a break at the nearby New Pacific No.1 store to enjoy a cup of afternoon tea and spend some leisurely time. The Xiuguluan River is approximately 104 kilometers long, making it the largest river in Eastern Taiwan and the only river that cuts through the Coastal Mountain Range. Located at the mouth of the Xiuguluan River, the "Changhong Bridge" connects the north and south ends to Gangkou Village and Jingpu Village, featuring both old and new versions. The old Changhong Bridge was built in 1969 but became insufficient due to increasing traffic flow, leading to the construction of the "New Changhong Bridge" in 2006. The brightly colored red bridge spans the green mountains and waters, looking quite striking, with different views from afar and nearby. The New Changhong Bridge is specially designed to separate fast and slow lanes, and even includes a bicycle lane and sidewalk, allowing tourists to safely enjoy the view of the Xiuguluan River mouth from the bridge. The old Changhong Bridge is now a pedestrian-only path, with pavilions on both sides for visitors to rest, enabling leisurely walks while admiring the grandeur of the New Changhong Bridge. The white bridge stands out against the lush mountain scenery, appearing particularly fresh and charming, and standing on the bridge to appreciate the vast sky and sea scene is refreshing. Transportation options include public transport (Hualien Bus 1127, 1140, 1145 - get off at Changhong Bridge Station) or driving to the address: 68 kilometers on Taiwan Provincial Highway 11, Fengbin Township, Hualien County.
