Shitigang Bay Introduction
Shitiping features a unique rocky coastline sculpted by wind and seawater, abundant with natural ecological resources in the intertidal zone: crabs, starfish, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs, and colorful fish await those with keen observation skills to uncover their mysteries. At night, visitors can camp at the Shitiping camping area located above the wave-cut platform, and greet the beautiful dawn the next day, as the morning sunlight breaks through the clouds, casting a golden glow on the sea surface. Shitiping, a world-class outdoor geological classroom, is located at the southern end of Shitiping Bay in Fengbin Township, Hualien County. The entire area features a vast coastal terrace with well-developed wave-cut topography, including wave-cut platforms, uplifted coral reefs, wave-cut gullies, and wave-cut cliffs, with the pothole landscape being known as the best in Taiwan. The Shitiping coastline is rich in coral reefs and tropical fish, and the tidal pools formed by the potholes support a variety of marine life, including seaweeds, fish, shrimp, and shellfish, making Shitiping an excellent location for observing the rich intertidal ecosystem, as well as for diving and shore fishing. Visitors can explore the scenic area along the circular trail or climb the 17-meter-high Shanmei Mountain, which offers sweeping views of the geological landscape of Shitiping and the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Shitiping is also a vibrant port, where fishing boats bring in fresh catches daily. Furthermore, it is the birthplace of whale watching in Taiwan, attracting visitors each summer as dolphins and whales appear offshore, inviting them to board whale-watching boats to chase after their graceful figures. Don’t miss the chance to embark on an eco-friendly whale watching adventure!
