Shitiping Introduction
Shitiping features unique coastal landscapes sculpted by wind and seawater, along with rich natural ecological resources in the intertidal zone: crabs, starfish, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs, and colorful fish waiting for keen observers to explore their mysteries. Camping at the Shitiping camping area above the coastal platform at night allows visitors to greet the beautiful dawn right outside their tents the next morning, witnessing the sunshine breaking through the clouds and illuminating the sea with a golden glow. The world-class outdoor geological classroom, Shitiping, is located at the southern end of Shitiping Bay in Fengbin Township, Hualien County. The entire area comprises a vast coastal terrace where marine erosion landscapes are highly developed, featuring marine terraces, uplifted coral reefs, marine erosion grooves, and cliffs, with the pot hole landscape being the best in Taiwan. The Shitiping coastline is rich in coral reefs and tropical fish, with tidal pools formed in conjunction with pot holes, nurturing a variety of marine life including seaweeds, fish, shrimp, and shellfish, making Shitiping an excellent spot for observing intertidal ecology as well as diving and rock fishing. Visitors can observe the scenery along the circular trail of the scenic area or climb the 17-meter tall Mounain to enjoy not only the geological landscape of Shitiping but also the majestic view of the vast Pacific Ocean. Shitiping is also a vibrant harbor, where fishing boats bring fresh catches ashore daily. It is the origin of whale watching in Taiwan, and each summer, whales and dolphins appear offshore, attracting tourists to board whale-watching boats and chase their elegant forms. Why not join a boat tour for an ecological whale watching experience?
