Shitiping Introduction
Shitiping features a unique coastline sculpted by wind and seawater, with a rich array of natural ecological resources in the intertidal zone, including crabs, starfish, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs, and colorful fish waiting for keen observers to uncover their mysteries. At night, campers can set up tents in the Shitiping camping area located above the wave-cut platform, where they can greet the beautiful dawn the next day, witnessing the morning sun breaking through the clouds and illuminating the sea with a brilliant golden hue. The world-class outdoor geological classroom, Shitiping, is located at the southern tip of Shitiping Bay in Fengbin Township, Hualien County. The entire area is a vast coastal terrace with highly developed wave-cut topography, including wave-cut platforms, uplifted coral reefs, wave-cut gullies, and wave-cut cliffs. Notably, the pothole landscape here is regarded as the best in Taiwan. The Shitiping coastline is rich in coral reef clusters and tropical fish. Tide pools formed by the potholes in the intertidal zone are home to a variety of marine life, such as seaweeds, fish, shrimp, and shellfish, making Shitiping an excellent spot for observing rich intertidal ecosystems as well as for diving and shore fishing. Visitors can explore the scenic area's circular trail for firsthand observations or ascend the 17-meter-high Single-Sided Mountain, where they can enjoy not only the geological landscape of Shitiping but also the expansive view of the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, Shitiping is a vibrant port where fishing boats land fresh catches daily. It is also the birthplace of whale watching in Taiwan, as whales and dolphins appear offshore every summer, attracting tourists to board whale-watching boats in pursuit of their graceful figures—join a boat tour for an ecological whale watching adventure!
