Shitiping Introduction
Shitiping boasts unique coastal scenery sculpted by wind and seawater, with a rich array of natural ecological resources in the intertidal zone, including crabs, starfish, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs, and colorful fish, waiting for keen observers to explore their mysteries. At night, camping is available at the Shitiping camping area above the coastal platform, allowing visitors to greet the beautiful dawn the next day, as the morning sunlight breaks through the clouds and paints the sea in brilliant golden hues. Shitiping, a world-class outdoor geological classroom, is located at the southern end of Shitil Bay in Fengbin Township, Hualien County. The entire area is a vast coastal terrace with well-developed coastal erosion landforms, including coastal platforms, uplifted coral reefs, sea eroded gullies, and sea cliffs. Notably, the pothole landscape here is considered the best in Taiwan. The Shitiping coast is rich in coral reefs and tropical fish, with tidal pools formed in the intertidal zone and potholes, where a variety of seaweeds, fish, shrimp, and shellfish thrive, making Shitiping an excellent place to observe the diverse intertidal ecology and enjoy diving and rock fishing. Visitors can explore the area along the scenic circular trails or climb the 17-meter-high Single Mountain, where they can enjoy the geological landscape of Shitiping and take in the vastness of the Pacific Ocean. Shitiping is also a vibrant port where fishing boats bring fresh catches ashore daily. Moreover, it is the birthplace of whale watching in Taiwan, with whales and dolphins appearing offshore every summer, attracting tourists to board whale-watching boats to chase their graceful figures. Why not embark on an ecological whale-watching journey!
