Shitiping Introduction
Shitiping features unique coastal landscapes sculpted by wind and seawater, with a rich array of natural ecological resources in the intertidal zone: crabs, starfish, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs, and colorful fish waiting for the keen observer to uncover their mysteries. At night, campers can set up tents at the Shitiping campsite overlooking the marine erosion platform, and the next day greet the beautiful dawn, watching the morning sun break through the clouds, reflecting a golden sheen across the sea. The world-class outdoor geological classroom, Shitiping, is located at the southern end of Shitiping Bay in Fengbin Township, Hualien County. The entire area is a vast coastal terrace with well-developed marine erosion terrain, featuring marine erosion platforms, uplifted coral reefs, marine erosion gullies, and marine erosion cliffs, with the pot hole landscape considered the best in Taiwan. The Shitiping coast is home to rich coral reef groups and tropical fish, with tidal pools formed by the pot holes that nurture a variety of marine life such as seaweeds, shrimp, and shellfish, making Shitiping an excellent place for observing intertidal ecology as well as for diving and shore fishing. Visitors can explore the scenic area's circular trail for direct observation or climb the 17-meter high One-Side Mountain for a panoramic view of Shitiping's geological scenery and the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Shitiping is also a vibrant port where fishing boats bring fresh catches ashore daily. Additionally, it is the birthplace of whale watching in Taiwan, with whales and dolphins appearing offshore every summer, attracting visitors to board whale watching boats to pursue their graceful figures.
