Shitiping Introduction
Shitiping boasts a unique coastal landscape shaped by wind and seawater, with rich natural ecological resources in the intertidal zone: crabs, starfish, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs, and colorful fish waiting to be discovered by observant visitors. Camping at the Shitiping campsite above the wave-cut platform allows you to greet the beautiful dawn right in front of your tent the next day, watching the morning sun break through the clouds, casting a golden glow on the sea surface. The world-class outdoor geological classroom, Shitiping, is located at the southernmost end of Shitihwa in Fengbin Township, Hualien County. The entire area is a vast coastal terrace with well-developed wave-cut topography, including wave-cut platforms, raised coral reefs, wave-cut gullies, and wave-cut cliffs, with the cavern formations being regarded as the best in Taiwan. The Shitiping coast is rich in coral reefs and tropical fish, and the tidal pools formed by the caverns harbor various marine organisms such as algae, fish, shrimp, and shellfish, making Shitiping an excellent place to observe the rich intertidal ecology, as well as for diving and rock fishing. Visitors can explore the area by walking along the scenic circular trail or climbing the 17-meter-high Dan Mountain, where they can enjoy not only the geological landscapes of Shitiping but also the magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean. Shitiping is also a vibrant port, where fishing boats bring fresh catches ashore daily. Furthermore, it is the birthplace of whale watching in Taiwan, as whales and dolphins appear in the offshore waters each summer, attracting tourists to board whale-watching boats to chase their graceful forms. Why not join a whale-watching ecological tour and experience it for yourself?
