Moon Cave Introduction
Yue Dong is located in Fengbin Township, Hualien County, about 1 kilometer south of Shiti Beach and near the Port Village. It is a natural limestone cave and is regarded as a sacred place by the indigenous people of the Port Tribe. Inside the cave, there is a pool of accumulated water about 5 meters deep, and the water level rises and falls with the phases of the moon, hence the name "Yue Dong," also known as "Moon Well." Legend has it that there are many eels in the lake, including one that weighs over 10 kilograms, known as the "thousand-year eel."
