Shitiping Recreation Area Introduction
Shitiping, located near Shimen, is an excellent spot for diving and rock fishing. It features a one-kilometer stretch of bizarre rock formations and multi-layered marine erosion platforms, with prominent coral reefs visible throughout the area. The unique solution hole geology is dotted with various marine plants, including trees, cacti, and saddle vines, making the landscape quite rich. It has been designated as a scenic area, offering excellent recreational facilities such as a large parking lot, seaside pathways, and camping areas. Shitiping is situated at the southern end of Shitihwan in Fengbin Township, Hualien County. The entire area comprises a vast coastal terrace with highly developed marine erosion terrain, showcasing eroded platforms, uplifted coral reefs, erosion ditches, and cliffs. The solution hole landscape is particularly renowned as the best in Taiwan. The coastline of Shitiping is home to abundant coral reefs and tropical fish. The tidal pools formed in the intertidal zone coexist with the holes, hosting a variety of marine life, including seaweeds, fish, shrimp, and shellfish, making Shitiping an ideal location for observing rich intertidal ecology and diving. Visitors can explore the scenic area along the circular trail or climb the 17-meter-high single-sided mountain to appreciate not only the geological landscape of Shitiping but also the grand panorama of the Pacific Ocean. It is a premier spot for stargazing at night, embracing the vast Pacific while being among the first to witness the sunrise. The Shitiping campsite is definitely the most popular camping area, equipped with comprehensive facilities.
