Tianhou Temple Introduction

-Introduction- Founded in the twelfth year of the Tongzhi era during the Qing Dynasty, Dianji Temple has a history of over a hundred years and is the largest temple in Keelung City. The temple is dedicated to Kaizhang Shengwang, also known as General Chen Yuanguang from the Tang Dynasty. The surrounding business district has gradually developed into the well-known Keelung Night Market, which is considered one of the important centers of belief among many residents. -Features- It is hard to imagine that amidst the bustling and busy alleys of the night market, there lies a historic and thriving ancient temple. Upon entering Dianji Temple, one is greeted by a spacious area filled with swirling incense smoke, and the intricate carvings and decorations retain a strong sense of primitive beauty. Notably, Dianji Temple is constructed in the grand "Seven-terraced Temple" style, primarily worshipping Kaizhang Shengwang, who is said to have been a military scholar during the Tang dynasty. He quelled unrest at the Min-Guang borders and petitioned to establish counties and develop the Fujian region, earning the deep respect of the local populace. This is not only a religious holy site but also an indispensable spiritual hub for many people. During festivals or important rituals, the area in front of the temple is always bustling with activity, creating a lively scene that feels like a time warp, intertwining traditional beliefs with human warmth. -Recommendations- Right next to Dianji Temple is the famous Keelung Night Market. It is recommended to enjoy local delicacies and experience the unique warmth of the community at the nearby night market after visiting the temple for worship.
