Gangziliao Fort Introduction
-Introduction- Located at the junction of Xinyi District and Zhongzheng District in Keelung, the Gangziliao Fort has stood here since the early days of Japanese rule. Along with the Niuchouling Fort, it guards the safety of the Badouzi Harbor and the outer harbor. Climbing to the high ground offers a broad view, allowing one to see Keelung Island, Heping Island, Badouzi, and Bitou Cape. -Highlight- The Gangziliao Fort is a national historic site, where remnants of military facilities such as gun positions, observation areas, barracks, command posts, and storerooms can still be seen, preserving its historical atmosphere. The fort is built at an altitude of 150 meters, covering an area of about 2 hectares, nestled against the mountains and overlooking the sea. The term "Gangzi" comes from the Ketagalan language, meaning "trap," mainly defending the Badouzi and the northern waters of Keelung Harbor. Between the gun positions and through the tunnel, one can see Badouzi Harbor. Following the small path behind the fort, one can leisurely ascend to the high point, taking in the scenic Keelung views, where history meets mountains and seas, creating an enchanting sight. -Recommendation- The Gangziliao Fort is situated on the Xiaobai Mountain, and walking along the trails surrounded by lush vegetation, one can listen to the sounds of insects and birds, as well as observe the local flora and fauna.
