Jibei Sandbar Introduction
When it comes to Jibei Island, many people may think of the well-known idol drama "Dolphin Bay Lovers," but Jibei is also famous for Jibei Sandbar located to the southwest. The sandbar, also known as a "sand spit," is a type of coastal geomorphology formed by the accumulation of coral debris and shell sand due to the push of tidal currents. The beach extends southeastward from Xikanshan, and at the end of the beach, a sand spit structure reaches into the sea. Jibei Sandbar is approximately 800 meters long and 200 meters wide; its shape and size change due to seasonal shifts in coastal currents, exhibiting a natural phenomenon similar to a tail swaying. The sandbar is covered with golden sand, hence it is also called "Golden Sand Spit," where visitors can partake in water activities and enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. Nearby, Xikanshan was originally an independent basalt reef, but over time the accumulation of coral debris formed a land-connected island, linking it to the main Jibei Island. This is the highest point on Jibei Island, offering a distant view of Mituo Islet, Gupo Islet, and Tiean Islet, and during low tide, the surrounding stone weirs and intertidal zones can be seen. Jibei Island serves as an excellent resting spot for migratory birds during the spring and autumn seasons, where they can feed to replenish their energy for the journey ahead. In the spring of 2013, over 3,000 red-bellied hawks were observed flying over Jibei in one day, and other rare bird species frequently appear on Jibei Island during this time.
