Sun Moon Lake Gondola Station Introduction
The Sun Moon Lake Gondola Station is located in Yuchi Township, Nantou County, Taiwan. It is the first public gondola system in Taiwan built under a BOO model (Build-Operate-Transfer) and officially began operation on December 28, 2009. The gondola route is approximately 1.877 kilometers long, linking the Sun Moon Lake Gondola Station on the southeastern lakeside of Sun Moon Lake to the Viewing Pavilion at Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, consisting of two stations and traversing Mount Bujiy. This allows visitors to overlook the magnificent scenery of Sun Moon Lake and the picturesque Puli Basin from above. The gondola system was designed and manufactured by the Austrian company Doppelmayr and includes 86 cabins, each capable of carrying around 8 people. The one-way travel time is approximately 7 to 10 minutes, with a maximum operating speed of 6 meters per second. The highest point reaches an elevation of 1,044 meters, with tower heights ranging from 58 to 60 meters, and the longest span of the gondola reaching up to 786 meters, featuring a straight-line design. Solar panels are installed on top of the gondola cabins to provide energy for the emergency broadcast system, ensuring both environmental sustainability and safety. Among them, the "Sakura Queen" cabin is a specially designed transparent crystal cabin, featuring hand-painted decorations themed around the Japanese Sakura Queen. It was named and unveiled by the 30th Sakura Queen of Japan, Misaki Sugiura, showcasing the deep friendship between Taiwan and Japan regarding cherry blossoms. The Sun Moon Lake Gondola Station is adjacent to the Ita Thao Pier, offering convenient transportation. Visitors can easily take the gondola without needing to drive, directly connecting to Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, enhancing the tourism experience and convenience significantly. The operating hours of the gondola vary slightly between weekdays and holidays, and may be adjusted based on large events or weather conditions. There is a regular maintenance day each month when operations are paused, so please refer to the Sun Moon Lake Gondola Station website for detailed dates. The opening hours are 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays and 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM on holidays, with the parking lot open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The first Wednesday of each month is designated as a maintenance shutdown day, during which the gondola will not operate.
