Checheng Railway Tourism Classroom Introduction
Checheng Elementary School was closed in 2015 due to a declining birthrate and remained vacant for many years. To revitalize this precious space, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration collaborated with the Nantou County Government to transform the school buildings into the "Railway Tourism Primary School" and established a new Checheng Visitor Center, successfully turning the former campus into a popular attraction that integrates education, culture, and tourism. On the second floor, the railway-themed exhibition hall intricately presents a scale model of the complete route of the Jiji Line from its starting station Ershuei, Yuanchuan, Zhuoshui, Longquan, Jiji, and Shui Li to the terminus Checheng, allowing visitors to "walk through" the Jiji Line railway indoors. The exhibition also collects historical tickets and railway artifacts from Taiwan Railways and features a train tunnel simulation scene called "Jiguang Tunnel," with rich historical information displayed on both sides, providing in-depth knowledge of railway culture. The Checheng Railway Tourism Primary School combines railway culture, historical preservation, and interactive experiences, making it suitable for family travel, railway enthusiasts, and culture lovers. Visitors can obtain detailed travel information at the visitor center and conveniently explore Checheng Old Street, the Log Pond, and nearby wood industry exhibition halls, enjoying a rich blend of culture and natural scenery.
