Checheng Railway Station Introduction

Checheng Station is located in Shui Li Township, Nantou County, and is known as "the last station" of the Jiji Line. This station was built during the Japanese colonial period and was originally constructed with reinforced concrete, witnessing the peak of Taiwan's timber and sugar transportation industries. Starting in 1916, the Puli Sugar Factory transported sugar to Checheng by trolley, which was then shipped out by rail, hence the name "Checheng." After the severe damage to the original station by the 1999 Jiji earthquake, it was rebuilt under the guidance of the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration, making extensive use of raw timber as the primary building material, with logs also paving the area in front of the station, showcasing a simple, elegant, and naturally warm architectural style. The new station harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding mountain scenery and is praised as "the most beautiful train station." Checheng Station serves not only as a transportation hub but also integrates the local cultures of the timber, railway, and electrical industries. The surrounding area retains the charm of Japanese wooden architecture, with vast railway lawns and areas paved with logs, making it a popular photo spot. Visitors are greeted by breathtaking mountains on all sides upon disembarking, resembling a paradise and earning the nickname "Secret Garden." With its unique wooden architecture, long history, and natural scenery, Checheng Station has become a cultural landmark and a must-visit highlight in Nantou's mountain towns.
