Quanmingsheng Ecological Education Sericulture Farm Introduction
In Miaoli, in a quiet corner of the Shitan Valley, there were originally terraced fields of rice. In the late 1970s, due to government promotion, mulberry trees were planted, and plump silkworms were raised, marking the beginning of a professional sericulture life. Starting from round cocoon production and then transitioning to flat cocoon production, by the 1990s, changes in government agricultural policies led to the elimination of sericulture, and there were no longer any buyers for silkworm silk. Looking at the vast green mulberry fields and the uncertain future, the farm owner insisted on preserving this precious historical industry in Taiwan, hoping that children could see the adorable silkworms, thus establishing the "Quanmings Ecological Education Sericulture Farm." In the pesticide-free ecological mulberry garden, thousands of silkworms are raised. Visitors can observe the silkworms eating mulberry leaves, growing, spinning silk, pupating, and finally transforming into moths. In the courtyard, cute insects and small animals can be seen fluttering about, and at night, fireflies accompany us; if we're lucky, we can even see large silk moths! With over 20 years of experience in silkworm raising, Quanmings is Taiwan's only professional silkworm farm and has been designated as a demonstration teaching site by the Miaoli County Government. From the basics of mulberry leaf cultivation and silkworm rearing to hands-on participation in making flat handmade silk quilts, the farm provides professional and easily understandable guided explanations, enabling the public to gain a thorough understanding of the ecology of mulberry leaves and to experience the wonderful world of silkworms.
