Nanjhuang Old Street (Osmanthus Lane) Introduction
Located in the Nanjhuang Township of Miaoli County, "Osmanthus Lane" is a small alley on Nanjhuang Old Street, rich in history and infused with Hakka culture. Nanjhuang has three main streets, and Osmanthus Lane is nestled between two of them. Despite its name, the lane is not filled with the scent of osmanthus flowers. With a width of about two meters, Osmanthus Lane is paved with red bricks. In the past, a group of community builders and women established the "Osmanthus Lane Workshop" to promote local culture, hence the name. The alley features many small shops selling various Nanjhuang snacks, as well as old laundry pits used by women in earlier times, a post office from the Showa era, and traditional shops selling beautiful kimonos. A visit to Osmanthus Lane on a cool holiday promises delightful surprises.
