Nanzhuang Old Street (Osmanthus Alley) Introduction
"Osmanthus Lane," located in Nanzhuang Township, Miaoli County, is a small alley on Nanzhuang Old Street that has a long history and a strong Hakka cultural atmosphere. Nanzhuang mainly consists of three streets, and Osmanthus Lane is nestled between two of them. Despite the name, the fragrance of osmanthus flowers isn't typically present. The alley, about two meters wide, is paved with red bricks. In earlier times, a group of community builders and women established the "Osmanthus Lane Workshop," focusing on local culture, which inspired its name. The alley features many small shops selling various local snacks from Nanzhuang, a washing pit used by women for laundry in the past, an old post office from the Japanese colonial era, and traditional shops selling beautiful kimonos. Visit Osmanthus Lane in Nanzhuang on a cool holiday, and you are sure to be pleasantly surprised.
