Nanzhuang Old Street (Osmanthus Lane) Introduction
"Osmanthus Lane," located in Nanzhuang Township, Miaoli County, is a small alley on the Nanzhuang Old Street with a long history and a rich Hakka cultural atmosphere. Nanzhuang has three main streets, with Osmanthus Lane nestled between two of them. Despite not having the fragrance of osmanthus, it is named Osmanthus Lane. The alley is about two meters wide, paved with red bricks. In the early days, a group of community builders and women established the "Osmanthus Lane Workshop" to promote local culture, hence the name. Inside the alley, there are many small shops selling various Nanzhuang snacks, an old laundry pit used by women in earlier times, a post office from the Showa era, and traditional shops selling beautiful kimonos. Visiting Osmanthus Lane in Nanzhuang on a cool holiday will guarantee you unexpected surprises.
