Nanzhuang Old Street (Osmanthus Lane) Introduction
The "Osmanthus Alley," located in Nanjo Township, Miaoli County, is a small alley on the old street of Nanjo, rich in history and steeped in Hakka culture. Nanjo primarily consists of three streets, with Osmanthus Alley situated between two of them. Despite its name, Osmanthus Alley lacks the fragrance of osmanthus flowers. The alley is about two meters wide and is paved with red bricks. In its early days, a group of community builders and women established the "Osmanthus Alley Workshop" to promote local culture, which is how the alley got its name. Inside the alley, there are many small shops selling various snacks from Nanjo, an old laundry pit used by women in earlier times, an old post office dating back to the Showa era, and traditional shops selling beautiful kimonos. A visit to Osmanthus Alley in Nanjo on a cool holiday is guaranteed to bring you unexpected surprises.
