Nanzhuang Old Street (Osmanthus Lane) Introduction
"Osmanthus Lane," located in Nanzhuang Township, Miaoli County, is a historic alley on Nanzhuang Old Street that is rich in Hakka cultural atmosphere. Nanzhuang primarily consists of three streets, and Osmanthus Lane is a small alley nestled between two of them. Despite not being fragrant with osmanthus flowers, it is named after them. The alley, approximately two meters wide, is paved with red bricks. In the early days, a group of community builders and women formed the "Osmanthus Lane Workshop" to promote local culture, hence the name. Within the alley, there are many small shops selling various Nanzhuang snacks, as well as a wash pit used by women for laundry in earlier times, an old post office from the Showa era, and traditional shops selling beautiful kimono. Taking a trip to Osmanthus Lane on a cool holiday is sure to surprise you with unexpected delights.
