Nanzhuang Old Street (Osmanthus Alley) Introduction
"Osmanthus Lane," located in Nanzhuang Township, Miaoli County, is a historic alley on Nanzhuang Old Street that exudes strong Hakka cultural vibes. Nanzhuang mainly consists of three streets, and Osmanthus Lane is nestled between two of them. Despite its name, you won't find the fragrance of osmanthus here. The lane is about two meters wide, lined with red bricks, and was named after a group of community builders and women who established the "Osmanthus Lane Workshop" to promote local culture. Inside the alley, there are many small shops selling various local snacks from Nanzhuang, as well as an old wash pit used by women for laundry, a historical post office from the era of Japanese rule, and a traditional store selling beautiful kimonos. A visit to Osmanthus Lane in Nanzhuang on a cool holiday is sure to bring unexpected surprises.
