Nihonmatsu Interpretation Center Introduction
Located on the Simaian Forest Road in Tai'an Township, Miaoli County, "Nibonmatsu" is a place name filled with Japanese charm, much like "Yukimi." Do you know how the name "Nibonmatsu" came about? The story goes back to the Japanese colonial period when a police station called Nibonmatsu was established here, with two towering pine trees in front of the building, hence the name "Nibonmatsu." Although the buildings no longer exist, remnants of the trees can still be seen as a nostalgic reminder of the past. The old site of the police station has now been repurposed into the Nibonmatsu Interpretation Station, staffed by Indigenous interpreters and volunteers who guide visitors to explore the rich cultural heritage, Indigenous culture, and ecological treasures of the surrounding area. On clear days, we can overlook the majestic Daan River Valley, the eight tribes of Nansan Village, and even Shilin Reservoir from the viewing platform, making it the best vantage point along the Yukimi route. Walking through this pristine forest, surrounded by lush bamboo groves and soaring cypress and fir trees, one can feel the tranquil atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression.
