Lukang Old Street Introduction

The most unique charm of Lugang lies in the sedimentation of time. Lugang Old Street is a representative time corridor that leads one back to more than 300 years ago, showcasing the historical scene of "Lugang's Flying Sails," where merchant ships and various traders gathered. To this day, exquisite ancient houses and deep street shops are well-preserved, and with the wave of tourism, a variety of vibrant shops have emerged, creating a strong attraction that draws crowds to explore the historical splendor of the past and experience the surprise of treasure hunting while shopping.

The ebb and flow of time has transformed the landscape, leading to silt accumulation in the harbor and a shift in historical focus. This old street has been miraculously frozen in time and, due to the pressures of subsequent development, has garnered attention and initiated preservation efforts. Today, as people walk through the winding red-brick alleys, they admire the exquisite brick buildings and courtyards, the gray tiles, earthen walls, and Fuzhou cypress doors, windows, and couplets. The ancient charm they embody evokes memories of the prosperous trade and the cultural sentiments nurtured after settling down. Yaolin Street unveils the most prosperous page of Lugang, but it is also the shortest old street, only 30 meters long. On this street, "Hehe Shop" was once the largest shipyard, possessing a large fleet and engaging in trade across the strait. It has since transformed, but the rear hall and side rooms still retain the calligraphy works of renowned masters from back in the day, passing on the spirit of culture.
