Ximen Fude Temple Introduction
Main Deity: Fude Zhengshen Historical Background: The Changhua West Gate Fude Temple (designated as a county historic site) enshrines Fude Zhengshen, commonly known as the God of the Land, who is the guardian deity of the land, and is also referred to as the Daxi Men Land God Temple. The exact founding date is unknown, but it can be preliminarily inferred from the ancient plaque hanging in the temple from the Qianlong era, suggesting establishment around that time. The belief in Fude Zhengshen has been extremely widespread among Taiwan's early settlers during their land development history. In rural areas, he is venerated as the protector of the state, while in urban areas, merchants worship him as the God of Wealth, hence the saying "land gods at the ends of the fields, streets, and alleys." In the past, there were four city gates in Changhua: East Gate (Le Geng Men), West Gate (Qing Feng Men), South Gate (Xuan Ping Men), and North Gate (Gong Chen Men), and each had a land temple built near the inner side of the city gates.
