Ximen Fu De Temple Introduction
Main Deity: Fu De Zheng Shen Historical Background: Changhua Ximen Fu De Temple (County-designated Historic Site) enshrines Fu De Zheng Shen, commonly known as the Earth God, who is the guardian of the land. It is also referred to as the Daxi Men Earth God Temple. The exact date of establishment is unknown, but it is estimated to be from the Qianlong period based on an ancient plaque hanging in the temple. The belief in Fu De Zheng Shen was widespread among the early settlers in Taiwan, revered in rural areas as the deity of the land and regarded as the God of Wealth by merchants in urban areas, hence the saying "Earth God at the head and tail of the fields and in every street and lane." In the past, Changhua City had four gates: East Gate (Le Geng Men), West Gate (Qing Feng Men), South Gate (Xuan Ping Men), and North Gate (Gong Chen Men), each having a temple for the Earth God located nearby on the inner side of the city.
