Ximen Fude Temple Introduction
Main Deity: Fude Zhengshen Historical Background: Changhua West Gate Fude Temple (County-designated Historic Site) is dedicated to Fude Zhengshen, commonly known as the Land God, who is the guardian of the land, hence also referred to as the West Gate Land God Temple. The exact founding date is unknown, but it is presumed to be from the Qianlong period based on an ancient plaque hanging in the temple. The belief in Fude Zhengshen was widespread among the early settlers in Taiwan's history of land development; he was revered in rural areas as the deity of the land and by merchants in urban areas as the god of wealth, thus the saying “Land Gods at the ends of the fields and streets.” In the past, there were four gates in Changhua County, namely the East Gate (Yejing Gate), West Gate (Qingfeng Gate), South Gate (Xuanping Gate), and North Gate (Gongchen Gate), with a Land Temple built near each gate on the inside.
