Ximen Fude Temple Introduction
Main Deity: Earth God (Fude Zhengshen) Historical Background: The Changhua Ximen Fude Temple (county-designated historic site) enshrines the Earth God, commonly known as the Land God, who is the guardian of the land, hence also referred to as the Daxi Men Land God Temple. The exact founding date is unknown, but it can be inferred from the ancient plaque hanging inside the temple, dating back to the Qianlong period (1736-1795). The worship of the Earth God was widespread among Taiwan's early settlers during the land reclamation era; in rural areas, he was revered as a deity of the nation, while merchants in urban areas viewed him as the God of Wealth, leading to the saying, "Land Gods at every corner." In the past, there were four city gates in Changhua County: the East Gate (Le Geng Gate), West Gate (Qing Feng Gate), South Gate (Xuan Ping Gate), and North Gate (Gong Chen Gate), with a Land Temple built near each city gate on the inner side.
