Shengwang Temple Introduction
Shengwang Temple, also known as Weihui Temple, is a national historic site established in the 11th year of the Yongzheng era (1732 AD) during the Qing dynasty. It was later destroyed during the Chen Zhouquan incident and underwent renovations during the Jiaqing and Guangxu eras. It is an ancient temple dedicated to the worship of the Holy King of Kaizhang, Chen Yuan Guang, and serves as the guardian temple for the Zhangzhou people in Changhua County. In the past, it was the center of faith for the Zhangzhou community. Chen Yuan Guang was a person from the Tang dynasty who came from Huangzhou, Henan, and was conferred the title of Holy King of Weihui for his contributions to opening Zhangzhou.
