Shengwang Temple Introduction
The Shengwang Temple, a national historic site, also known as Wei Hui Palace, was established in the eleventh year of the Yongzheng era of the Qing Dynasty (1732 AD). It was later damaged during the Chen Zhou Quan incident and was renovated during the Jiaqing and Guangxu periods. This ancient temple is dedicated to the worship of Chen Yuan Guang, the Shengwang (Holy King) who made significant contributions in the development of Zhangzhou. It serves as a guardian temple for the Zhangzhou people in Changhua City and was historically the center of faith for the Zhangzhou community. Chen Yuan Guang, a person from the Tang Dynasty, came from Guangzhou, Henan, and was posthumously honored as Wei Hui Sheng Wang for his achievements in the development of Zhangzhou.
