Baisha Pit Wende Temple Introduction
Built during the Qing Dynasty in the Qianlong period, it was originally named "Bao'an Temple." In the Daoguang period, due to the local Hanlin scholar Zeng Weizhen, the temple's name was changed to "Wendegong," symbolizing "to safeguard the territory and ensure the welfare of the people, while promoting cultural and moral teachings." The emperor conferred the title of the local earth god of Zeng's hometown with the same status as Hanlin scholars and bestowed a royal cap, making it the only earth god in Taiwan to receive a royal title. Wendegong follows an ancient tradition of the lantern festival for over a century, which was registered as a "folklore cultural asset" in 2008. After four relocations, the temple has grown larger, with more worshippers. There are ceremonial gates and righteous paths on both sides. Subsequently, "Wuying Building" was added to enshrine the divine military leaders and exhibit historical artifacts, adding further historical significance.
