Changhua County Natural Ecology Education Center (White Dolphin House) Introduction
The Changhua County Natural Ecology Education Center is located near the mouth of Dadu River in Shengang Township, next to the Qing'an Waterway. This pure white building, closely positioned by the waterfront, offers a dreamy and refreshing experience amid green hills, shimmering waves, and white wind turbines. It echoes the nearby West Coast, where white dolphins inhabit the waters. The ecology center, with a shell resembling a leaping dolphin, is affectionately nicknamed the "White Dolphin House," evoking romantic feelings while conveying a mission of conservation. It is not only praised as the most beautiful spot for social media photos but also serves as a prominent entry point for understanding the coastal ecology.
The Changhua County Ecological Education Center is located in the Changbin Industrial Zone, in the western part of Changhua County, adjacent to the west coast expressway along Taiwan Route 61. It can also be accessed via Qing'an Road next to the Qing'an Waterway. Along Qing'an Road, one can experience the sight of towering white wind turbines, gently spinning in the sky. There is a magical atmosphere, as if being swept into the wind farm. Near the end of Qing'an Road by the estuary, before being dazzled by the sight of the white Dolphin House, the Changhua County Government has also built a large parking lot and developed the 2.7-hectare Xibi Dolphin Park, which features playground facilities such as slides and a pet park. This ensures that drivers do not have to worry about parking and provides families with a more diverse experience.
Changhua County Natural Ecology Education Center, which was completed and opened in 2020, has the first floor as an ecological exhibition center covering approximately 1,622 square meters, with the second floor about 225 square meters, and the third floor about 179 square meters. Currently, the indoor exhibition space on the first floor is open to the public, taking on the educational mission of promoting awareness of marine, wetland, and conservation ecology, and it also has a retail section for souvenir products and public restrooms. It serves as the best point for expanding perspectives and engaging in experiences of marine, wetland, and estuarine ecology. Notably, nearby Dadu River Estuary is a nationally significant wetland in Changhua County, rich in flora and fauna, and Shengan is known as the "Hometown of Fiddler Crabs" and "Hometown of Water Birds." Commonly seen along the nearby coast and waterways are the Great Knot, Black-tailed Godwit, Eastern Curlew, and Little Tern, with the occasional sighting of endangered species such as the Black-faced Spoonbill or Black-headed Gull.
