Daodong Academy Introduction
Hemei Dao Dong Academy, a national historic site, was established in the seventh year of the Xianfeng era during the Qing Dynasty (1857 AD). It is one of the more complete ancient academies remaining in Taiwan. In recent years, it has been restored, with its beams and pillars replaced, returning to its former appearance. The academy is adjacent to Hemei Junior High School and Hemei Elementary School. The main hall enshrines the deities Zhugong and Kuixing, while the eastern wing honors the merit of those who contributed to its restoration with longevity tablets. The western wing is dedicated to the God of Wealth and Earth. The academy features a section of original weathered logs from its initial construction, and its expansive courtyard, shaded by lush greenery, is often frequented by the public for leisure and recreation throughout the day.
