Daotong Academy Introduction
The He Mei Dao Dong Academy, a designated national historic site, was established in the seventh year of the Xianfeng era during the Qing Dynasty (1857 AD) and is one of the most well-preserved ancient academies in Taiwan. In recent years, it has been restored, with beams and columns replaced to restore its former appearance. The academy is adjacent to He Mei Junior High School and Elementary School. The central hall enshrines the spirit tablet of Zhu Wen-gong and the statue of the God of Examination (Kwai Sing), while the eastern wing is dedicated to the spirit tablets of individuals who contributed to its reconstruction. The western wing worships the God of Wealth and Earth (Fu De Zheng Shen), and there is a large section of mottled original wood used during its initial construction. The courtyard is spacious and lush with greenery, often frequented by the public for leisure and relaxation during the early morning and evening.
