Daotong Academy Introduction
He Mei Dao Dong Academy, a designated national historic site, was established in the seventh year of the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty (1857). It is one of the most complete ancient academies still existing in Taiwan. Recently restored, it has had its beams and columns replaced, restoring its former appearance. The academy is adjacent to He Mei Junior High School and He Mei Elementary School, with the main hall enshrining the deity Zhu Wen Gong and the statue of Kuixing. The eastern wing is dedicated to the longevity tablets of significant contributors throughout its renovations, while the western wing is dedicated to the God of Wealth. There is also a large segment of the original, weathered timber used during its first construction, and the spacious courtyard is richly shaded, frequently visited by the public for recreation and relaxation throughout the day.
