Tao Dong Academy Introduction
He Mei Dao Dong Academy, a national historic site, was established in the seventh year of the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty (1857). It is one of the most complete ancient academies remaining in Taiwan. Recently, it has been restored, with beams and pillars replaced to regain its former appearance. The academy is adjacent to He Mei Junior High School and He Mei Elementary School. The central hall enshrines the spirit tablet of Zhu Wen Gong and the statue of Kwaitsing. The east wing pays tribute to those who contributed to its restoration, while the west wing is dedicated to the God of Wealth. There is also a large section of the original mottled wood used during its initial construction. The courtyard is spacious and lush, often frequented by the public for leisure and recreation throughout the day.
