Yuli Long Highway Introduction
The Yuchang Highway is part of Taiwan's Provincial Highway No. 30, stretching from Antong in Yuli Township, Hualien County to Ningpu in Changbin Township, Taitung County. The Yuchang Highway was originally constructed during the late Qing Dynasty, based on the ancient Antong mountain trail, and was further repaired during the Japanese occupation. Construction continued after World War II and was completed in 2007. With a total length of 16.22 kilometers, it is the only highway that crosses the Coastal Mountain Range via a tunnel. The scenic views along the route are beautiful and expansive, allowing for a breathtaking view of both the valleys of the Coastal Mountain Range and the vast Pacific Ocean, making it popular among cyclists and road trip enthusiasts. Additionally, there are often local farmers selling their homegrown produce and food from mobile food trucks along the way, making it ideal to sit at the observation decks, enjoy coffee, and take in the stunning scenery. Upon reaching the exit of the Yuchang Highway in Changbin Township, visitors can also connect with Wushi Beach for a close-up experience of the intertidal zone ecosystem, or stay in seaside guesthouses along Provincial Highway No. 11, where they can relax, watch the sea, and enjoy the sunrise.
