Yuchang Road Introduction
Yuli-Chang Highway is part of Taiwan Route 30, stretching from Antong in Yuli Township, Hualien County to Ningpu in Changbin Township, Taitung County. The highway was initially constructed during the late Qing Dynasty, based on the ancient Antong crossing trail, and it was further improved during the Japanese colonial period. Construction continued after World War II, and it was finally completed and opened to traffic in 2007. It spans a total length of 16.22 kilometers, making it the only road that traverses the Coastal Mountain Range via a tunnel. The scenic views along the route are beautiful and expansive, offering breathtaking sights of the valleys of the Coastal Mountain Range and the vast Pacific Ocean, making it a favorite destination for cyclists and road trip enthusiasts. Additionally, local farmers often sell their homegrown agricultural products along the way, and there are food trucks offering meals and coffee, making it a perfect spot to relax at the lookout while enjoying a cup of coffee and the stunning views. After reaching the exit of Yuli-Chang Highway in Changbin Township, visitors can easily connect to Wushi Beach to explore the intertidal ecosystem up close. There are also seaside homestays along Route 11, where guests can unwind, enjoy the ocean view, and watch the sunrise.
