Yuchang Highway Introduction
Yuchang Highway is a part of Taiwan Route 30, stretching from Antong in Yuli Township, Hualien County to Ningpu in Changbin Township, Taitung County. The Yuchang Highway was initially constructed during the late Qing Dynasty, based on the ancient Antong Mountain Path. It was further repaired during the Japanese occupation and continued to be built after the war, finally completing in 2007. It is 16.22 kilometers long and is the only highway that traverses the Central Mountain Range through a tunnel. The scenic views along the route are breathtaking, offering expansive vistas of the valleys of the Coastal Mountain Range and the endless Pacific Ocean, making it popular among cyclists and those who enjoy scenic drives. Additionally, local farmers frequently sell their homegrown produce along the way, along with food and coffee from food trucks, making it an excellent place to sit at an observation deck, enjoy coffee, and take in the beautiful scenery. After reaching the Changbin Township exit of Yuchang Highway, visitors can also connect to Wushi Bi for close encounters with intertidal zone ecology, and stay at seaside homestays along Taiwan Route 11 for relaxation by the sea and to enjoy the sunrise.
