Yuchang Road Introduction
The Yuchang Highway is part of Taiwan's Provincial Highway No. 30, stretching from Antong in Yuli Township, Hualien County to Ningpu in Changbin Township, Taitung County. The Yuchang Highway was initially constructed during the late Qing Dynasty, based on the ancient Antong crossing trail, and further improved during the Japanese occupation. Construction continued after World War II, and the road was finally completed and opened to traffic in 2007. It is 16.22 kilometers long and is the only highway that crosses the Coastal Mountain Range via tunnel. The scenic views along the way are beautiful and expansive, offering scenery of the valleys of the Coastal Mountain Range as well as views of the vast Pacific Ocean. It is popular among cyclists and those who enjoy cruising. In addition, there are often local farmers selling their homegrown produce and food from mobile food trucks along the route, making it a perfect spot to sit at an observation deck, enjoy a coffee, and take in the stunning views. After reaching the Changbin Township exit of the Yuchang Highway, visitors can also connect to Wushibi for close encounters with intertidal ecology and stay at seaside homestays along Provincial Highway No. 11 to relax, watch the ocean, and enjoy the sunrise.
