Sail Rock Introduction
Cape Bony (帆船鼻) is located at the southeastern tip of Green Island (綠島) and is a cape surrounded by the sea on three sides. It features an elevated coral reef terrace that rises about 30 meters above sea level, creating a relatively flat uplift platform. The grass-covered terrain on the cape is often referred to as "Green Island Carpet." From Cape Bony, one can look northward towards the distant cliffs and spectacular rock formations around Hsiao-cinseng Ping (海參坪) along the coastline; nearby, you can observe the three round hot spring pools of Chaori Hot Spring (朝日溫泉) and its modern facilities from a high vantage point. To the west lies the expansive coral skirt reef of Baisha Bay (白沙灣), and on clear days, you can see Orchid Island (蘭嶼) at the horizon where the sea meets the sky—an enchanting view reminiscent of a paradise on earth. Due to its prominent and elevated terrain, Cape Bony becomes a wind tunnel for the northeast monsoon. Coupled with post-natal grazing, it has developed into a low grassland landscape. Every year in April and May, visitors can witness the beauty of the Southern Cross constellation from Cape Bony, and during the spring and autumn migrations of birds, it becomes an excellent spot for birdwatching.
