Sleeping Beauty Rock Introduction
Green Island is an island formed by volcanic activity, and the eastern part is believed by scholars to have once been the site of an ancient volcanic crater. In addition to the volcanic neck remnants, the varying degrees of weathering of the crater wall have created a series of geological landscapes in the surrounding area. From the small Great Wall at Sea Cucumber Beach, overlooking the coastline, there is a geological formation resembling a woman lying on the shore, known as "Sleeping Beauty Rock," which, along with the nearby Pug Rock, is referred to as "Sleeping Beauty and Pug." There are various legends surrounding Sleeping Beauty and Pug; some say that the loyal Pug was guarding the sleeping beauty who fell into an endless slumber due to a witch's curse, while others claim that Pug and Sleeping Beauty were a loving couple who were cruelly turned to stone by offended deities and now stand guard on Green Island. Another story suggests that Sleeping Beauty and Pug had a big argument, causing them to sleep apart and ignore each other. A more interesting tale is that Sleeping Beauty was originally the fairy of flying fish. One day, while passing by Green Island, she found a stray Pug and transformed into a human to keep each other company. However, during a beach outing, the fairy accidentally turned back into her original form when a wave hit her, and Pug bit her. When this incident reached the Jade Emperor's ears, the fairy was punished for breaking heavenly rules and transformed into the current Sleeping Beauty, while Pug, due to the unintentional bite, became the Pug guarding her, and from that day on, dogs no longer liked to eat fish.
