Green Island Prison Introduction
Green Island was once the island with the highest density of prisons in the world, featuring various types of prisons on this small island. Green Island Prison, under the Ministry of Justice's Correctional Administration, is a high-security isolation prison and serves as the last line of defense among Taiwan's prisons, currently housing inmates sentenced to heavy penalties. The prison covers an area of 3.7 hectares and consists of one administrative office building and one external office building, as well as facilities including a day room, solitary confinement rooms, shared housing, isolation wards, a calming room, a workshop, and a kitchen. The prison specifically accommodates difficult, falsely accused, and unmanageable inmates transferred from various prisons in Taiwan, attracting special attention. Although the atmosphere at Green Island Prison remains serious and tense, it also welcomes tourists to take photos and purchase souvenirs crafted by inmates.
