Green Island Prison Introduction
Green Island was once the island with the highest prison density in the world, featuring various types of prisons on this small island. Green Island Prison, which is under the Ministry of Justice's Agency of Corrections, is a highly managed and isolated facility, serving as the last line of defense among Taiwan's prisons. It currently holds serious criminal offenders sentenced to long terms. The prison covers an area of 3.7 hectares and consists of one building each for internal and external offices, one for activities, as well as solitary confinement rooms, communal rooms, isolation units, calm rooms, workshops, and kitchens. Due to its management characteristics, the prison houses the most difficult offenders from various prisons in Taiwan, including those with troublesome behavior and false accusations, drawing significant attention. Today, Green Island Prison still maintains a serious and tense atmosphere, but it also welcomes visitors for photo opportunities and offers souvenirs made by inmates, which are unique in quality and craftsmanship due to the care put into their creation.
