Green Island Prison Introduction
Green Island was once the island with the highest prison density in the world, featuring various types of prisons on the small island. Green Island Prison is a subordinate department under the Ministry of Justice's Correctional Administration, serving as a high-security isolation prison and the last line of defense for prisons in Taiwan. It currently houses serious criminals sentenced to long terms. The prison covers an area of 3.7 hectares and consists of an office building for both internal and external use, a building known as the "Jinshintang," as well as solitary cells, shared cells, isolation units, a calming room, a workshop, and a kitchen. Due to its management characteristics, the prison specifically accommodates inmates who are difficult to manage, those who have made false accusations, and even those who are unmanageable, drawing significant attention. Today, while Green Island Prison still maintains a serious and tense atmosphere, it also welcomes visitors to take photos and purchase souvenirs crafted with care by inmates. The quality and uniqueness of these items, made under the guidance of older inmates, are sure to stand out.
