Green Island Prison Introduction
Green Island was once the island with the highest density of prisons in the world, with various types of prisons located on this small island. Green Island Prison is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice's Department of Corrections, serving as a highly managed isolation facility and the last line of defense among Taiwanese prisons, currently housing serious criminal offenders who have been sentenced to heavy penalties. The prison covers an area of 3.7 hectares and comprises two offices, a Day-Sing Hall, with individual cells, dormitory rooms, isolation rooms, a calming room, a workshop, and a kitchen, each consisting of one unit. Due to its management characteristics, the prison accommodates the most difficult-to-reform inmates from various prisons in Taiwan, particularly those involved in severe behavioral issues, false accusations, or are deemed unmanageable, drawing considerable attention. Today, the atmosphere within Green Island Prison remains serious and tense, yet it also welcomes tourists to take photos and purchase unique souvenirs made with care by the inmates, which are crafted under the supervision of the elder brother, ensuring their quality and distinctiveness.
