Green Island Prison Introduction
Green Island was once the island with the highest prison density in the world, featuring various types of prisons. Green Island Prison is a subordinate department of the Ministry of Justice's Department of Corrections. It is a highly managed isolation prison and serves as the last line of defense among Taiwan's prisons. Currently, it still houses inmates sentenced to severe penalties. Since 2021, the categories of inmates accepted at Green Island Prison have been adjusted to include "male inmates of serious and ordinary crimes," rather than solely serious offenders. The prison covers an area of 3.7 hectares and includes one office building for internal and external operations, a building for daily activities, and separate facilities for solitary confinement, shared accommodation, isolation, calming rooms, workshops, and kitchens.
