Nanquiao Fishing Port, Green Island Introduction
Nanliao Fishing Port is located south of a series of coral reef coastlines that slope gently into the sea, boasting rich underwater coral reefs, tropical fish, and shellfish. The most commonly seen species include bushy coral, umbrella coral, and mushroom coral, along with barrel sponges, large oceanic nudibranchs, pufferfish, flatfish, angelfish, and various shrimp and crabs. Nanliao Fishing Port is recognized as one of the best scenic spots for underwater views, referred to as the "Underwater Park." The water flow is stable, with an average depth of about 15-20 meters, making it one of the most popular diving spots in Green Island. During low tide, a vibrant green area of seaweed is revealed, showcasing a dazzling green color. The tide pools and rocky reefs are abundant with crustaceans and fish, often attracting seabirds for feeding, making it a paradise for birdwatching and an excellent location for snorkeling. Constructed in 1950, Nanliao Fishing Port serves as a docking point for ferries traveling between Taitung and Green Island. From the port, you can see Beitou Cape and the Green Island Lighthouse to the north, and Guiwan Cape to the south, offering a good view. On clear days, Taiwan can be seen in the distance, with the most prominent geographical feature being the trio of peaks resembling a celestial mountain rising from the sea, known as the Dawu Formation. The central peak is North Dawu Mountain, flanked by South Dawu Mountain and Wutou Mountain, which also provides a great vantage point for watching the sunset.
