Nanyiao Fishing Port, Green Island Introduction
South Liao Fishing Port is located south of a continuous coral reef coastline gently sloping into the sea, rich in underwater coral reefs, tropical fish, and shellfish. The most common species include branching corals, umbrella corals, and mushroom corals, as well as barrel sponges, sea hares, pufferfish, yellowfin sole, angelfish, and various shrimp and crabs. South Liao Fishing Port is recognized as one of the best viewing points for underwater landscapes, often referred to as an "underwater park," with stable water flow and an average depth of about 15 to 20 meters, making it one of the most popular diving sites in Green Island. At low tide, a patch of vibrant green seaweed is revealed, standing out with its bright green color. The tide pool and rocky shore are abundant with crustaceans and fish, frequently attracting seabirds in search of food, making it a birdwatching hotspot and the best place for snorkeling. South Liao Fishing Port was constructed in 1950 as a dock for transport boats between Taitung and Green Island. Looking north, one can see Bitou Cape and the Green Island Lighthouse, while to the south is Tortoise Bay Cape, offering a good view. On clear days, Taiwan can be seen in the distance, with the most prominent feature being the three parallel peaks resembling a fairy mountain over the sea, namely the central Longtou being North Dawu Mountain, and the left and right protectors being South Dawu Mountain and Wutou Mountain, which also make for a great spot to enjoy the sunset.
