Green Island Nanliao Fishing Port Introduction
South Liao Fishing Port is bordered by a continuous coral reef coastline that slopes gently into the sea, featuring rich underwater coral reefs, tropical fish, and shellfish. The most commonly seen species include branching corals, umbrella corals, and mushroom corals, along with barrel sponges, sea hares, pufferfish, flatfish, angelfish, and various shrimp and crabs. South Liao Fishing Port is recognized as one of the best viewing spots for underwater landscapes, known as the "Underwater Park." With stable water flow and an average depth of around 15 to 20 meters, it is one of the most popular diving spots in Green Island. During low tide, a patch of vibrant green sea lettuce emerges, making for a stunning sight. The tide pools and rocky reefs are home to abundant crustaceans and fish, attracting seabirds for feeding, making it an excellent birdwatching location and the best spot for snorkeling. South Liao Fishing Port was constructed in 1950 and serves as a docking point for ferryboats traveling between Taitung and Green Island. To the north, one can see Bitou Cape and the Green Island Lighthouse, while to the south, Turtle Bay Cape is visible, providing a great view. On clear days, Taiwan can be seen in the distance, with the prominent terrain being the three-peaked Da Wu Fortress resembling a celestial mountain, with North Da Wu Mountain as the central peak and South Da Wu Mountain and Wutou Mountain flanking it, making it a great spot for watching the sunset.
