Nanfangao Fishing Port Introduction
South Liao Fishing Port is located south of a continuous, gently sloping coral reef coast that merges into the sea, rich in underwater coral reefs, tropical fish, and shellfish. Common species include Acropora, umbrella corals, and gorgonian corals, along with barrel sponges, sea slugs, pufferfish, sole, butterflyfish, and various shrimp and crabs. South Liao Fishing Port is recognized as one of the best spots for viewing underwater landscapes, earning the nickname "Underwater Park." The water flows steadily, with an average depth of about 15 to 20 meters, making it one of the most popular diving spots in Green Island. During low tide, a vibrant green patch of seaweed becomes visible, shining brightly. The tide pools and rocky reefs are abundant with crustaceans and fish, often attracting seabirds foraging for food, making it a birdwatching paradise and an excellent spot for snorkeling. Built in 1950, South Liao Fishing Port serves as the docking point for the ferry service between Taitung and Green Island, with a good view towards Beidou Cape and the Green Island Lighthouse to the north, and Turtle Bay Cape to the south. On clear days, Taiwan can be seen in the distance, with the most prominent landform being the three peaks of the Dawu Fortress, resembling a celestial mountain rising from the sea, with Beidawu Mountain as the head, and Nandawu Mountain and Wutou Mountain as the guardians on either side. It is also a great location to enjoy the sunset.
