Nanliao Fishing Port, Green Island Introduction
Nanjiao Fishing Port is located south of a continuous coral reef coastline that slopes gently into the sea, featuring abundant underwater coral reefs, tropical fish, and shellfish. The most commonly seen species include Dendrophyllia, umbrella corals, and Caulastrea. There are also barrel sponges, large nudibranchs, pufferfish, one-spot flounders, angels fish, and various shrimp and crabs. Nanjiao Fishing Port is recognized as the best viewing point for underwater scenery, often referred to as the "Underwater Park." The water flow is stable, with an average depth of about 15 to 20 meters, making it one of the most popular diving spots in Green Island. During low tides, a vibrant green algae bed is revealed, shining brightly. The tide pools and rocky reefs are abundant with crustaceans and fish, which often attract seabirds for feeding, making it a great birdwatching spot as well as the best location for snorkeling. Built in 1950, Nanjiao Fishing Port serves as a docking point for transportation boats traveling between Taitung and Green Island, with a clear view of Bitou Cape and the Green Island Lighthouse to the north, and Turtle Bay Cape to the south. On clear days, Taiwan can be seen in the distance, with the most prominent terrain being the three peaks standing in a row, resembling a fairy mountain on the sea – the Dawu Ridge, with the northern peak being North Dawu Mountain and the flanking peaks being South Dawu Mountain and Wutoushan, making it also a great spot to enjoy the sunset.
