Railway Culture Park Introduction
The Railway Cultural Park is located at the old train station in Hualien City. Within the park are structures from the Japanese colonial period, including the Hualien Port Office, the Railway Hospital, the Railway Engineering Section, the Police Section, and numerous Japanese-style dormitories and residences. Despite suffering some damage over the years, this area is the most well-preserved site of Taiwan's narrow-gauge railway bases. In 2002, motivated by cultural workers and local residents, the Council for Cultural Affairs began listing these railway-related buildings as historical buildings in Hualien County and initiated restoration work for the Railway Cultural Park. The park includes: 1. The Hualien Port Office Park + the old station fountain. 2. The old Hualien Engineering Section + the old Hualien Police Section. 3. The steam locomotive water tower. 4. The old Railway Hospital (Shiyi Street). 5. The old train station's locomotive workshop (Huailan Heart - Sunshine Electric City). 6. The resident director's dormitory and employee dormitory complex. 7. The Railway Corridor shopping area. After eight years of renovations, parts one and two are now open to the public. Part one includes the Hualien Port Office Park, while part two includes the old Hualien Engineering Section and the old Hualien Police Section.
