Railway Cultural Park Introduction

The Railway Cultural Park is located in Hualien City's old train station. Within the area, there are various buildings from the Japanese colonial era, including the Hualien Port Office, railway hospital, railway maintenance section, police section, and numerous Japanese-style dormitories and residences. After enduring a century of wind and rain, these structures have experienced some damage, but they remain the best-preserved site of Taiwan's narrow-gauge railway base. In 2002, through the efforts of cultural historians and local residents, the Cultural Affairs Council began listing these railway-related buildings as historical sites in Hualien County and undertook restoration work for the Railway Cultural Park. The park's base includes: 1. The Hualien Port Office area + old station fountain. 2. Old Hualien railway maintenance section + old Hualien police section. 3. Steam locomotive water tower. 4. Old railway hospital (Stone Art Street). 5. Old train station machinery room (Heart of Huailan - Solar Power City). 6. Director's dormitory and employee dormitory complex. 7. Railway arcade shopping district. After eight years of renovation, the two sections of the park have been completed and opened for visits; Section 1 includes the Hualien Port Office area, while Section 2 consists of the old Hualien railway maintenance section and the old Hualien police section.
