Railway Cultural Park Introduction
The Railway Culture Park is located at the old train station in Hualien City. The area includes buildings from the Japanese colonial period, such as the Hualien Port branch office, railway hospital, railway maintenance section, police station, and numerous Japanese-style dormitories and private residences. Despite suffering some damage over a century of wind and rain, it remains the most well-preserved site of Taiwan's narrow-gauge railway base. In 2002, following the efforts of cultural and historical workers and local residents, the Ministry of Culture gradually designated these railway-related buildings as historical structures in Hualien County and began restoration work on the Railway Culture Park. The park includes: 1. Hualien Port branch office area and the old station's fountain. 2. Old Hualien Railway maintenance section and old Hualien police station. 3. Steam locomotive water tower. 4. Old railway hospital (Shiyu Street). 5. Old train station machine shop (Huilan Heart - Sunshine Electric City). 6. Director's dormitory and staff dormitory complex. 7. Railway-themed commercial area. After eight years of renovations, two sections have been completed and are open for visitors; the first section includes the Hualien Port branch office area, while the second section features the old Hualien Railway maintenance section and old Hualien police station.
