Railway Culture Park Introduction
The Railway Cultural Park is located at the old railway station in Hualien City. Within the park, there are several buildings from the Japanese colonial era, including the Hualien Port Office, the Railway Hospital, the Railway Works Section, the Police Section, and numerous Japanese-style dormitories and residential buildings. Despite some damage over the century, it remains the most well-preserved area of Taiwan's narrow-gauge railway heritage site. In 2002, thanks to the efforts of cultural historians and local residents, the Ministry of Culture gradually listed these railway-related buildings as historical sites in Hualien County, initiating restoration work for the Railway Cultural Park. The park includes: 1. Hualien Port Office area + old station fountain. 2. Old Hualien Works Section + old Hualien Police Section. 3. Steam locomotive water tower. 4. Old Railway Hospital (Shiyi Street). 5. Old railway station machine shop (Huailan Heart - Solar City). 6. Director's dormitory and staff dormitory area. 7. Railway arcade shopping district. After eight years of renovations, sections one and two have been completed and opened to the public; section one includes the Hualien Port Office area, while section two contains the old Hualien Works Section and old Hualien Police Section.
