Railway Cultural Park Introduction

The Railway Culture Park is located in the old train station of Hualien City. Within the area are buildings from the Japanese colonial period, including the Hualien Port Branch Office, Railway Hospital, Railway Engineering Section, Police Section, and numerous Japanese-style dormitories and residences. Despite suffering some damage over the century, it is the best-preserved site of Taiwan's narrow-gauge railway base. In 2002, through the efforts of cultural and historical workers and local residents, the Council for Cultural Affairs gradually designated these railway-related structures as historical buildings in Hualien County and started the restoration project of the Railway Culture Park. The park includes: 1. Hualien Port Branch Office Area + Old Station Fountain. 2. Old Hualien Engineering Section + Old Hualien Police Section. 3. Steam locomotive water tower. 4. Old Railway Hospital (Stone Art Street). 5. Old train station machine shop, etc. (Huilan's Heart - Solar Power City). 6. Director’s dormitory and staff dormitory complex. 7. Railway arcade shopping area. After eight years of renovations, two sections, Building One and Building Two, have been completed and opened for public visits. Building One includes the Hualien Port Branch Office area, while Building Two includes the old Hualien Engineering Section and old Hualien Police Section.
