Zhongyang Old Street Introduction
Central Old Street is the earliest developed street in Penghu, hence it is called "First Street." In 1984, Central Old Street was officially listed as a "Protected Historical Site." By 1994, residents of the Penghu Old Street formed the "Penghu First Street Revitalization Association," which received government funding for restoration and renovation, transforming the old street into its current Minnan-style architectural look, riding the wave of Penghu's tourism boom and restoring its former glory. The street also features many exotic buildings, including a Baroque-style traditional Chinese medicine shop and an old Japanese inn, both renowned establishments from the past. Tourists wandering through Central Old Street will pass by "M乳巷," an alley connecting to Central Street. In the early days, due to the narrow gaps between Penghu's houses, people had to walk sideways when encountering one another in this alley. Women would protect their chests with their hands while walking through, hence the name "M乳巷." After reconstruction, the alley has become quite spacious. Central Old Street is most famous for the Four-Eyed Well, which is also the oldest ancient well in the area, with a history of over 400 years. Originally, it was a huge well, but to prevent residents from falling in while drawing water, it was covered with granite slabs, creating four small stone-ringed holes, earning it the unique name of Four-Eyed Well. 【Recommended stay time】 1.5 hours
